Jirachi is one of a few Pokémon that can only be obtained legitimately when it is offered as a Mystery Gift or through the use of multiple games and systems. This makes Jirachi one of the hardest Pokémon to obtain, but it also makes it an incredibly tough Pokémon to Shiny hunt. This guide will walk players through the process of setting up to Shiny hunt the Mythical Jirachi.
The Wish Pokémon Jirachi was introduced in Gen 3 of Pokémon but was not made readily available in-game like some of the other Gen 3 Legendaries. Instead, players could only obtain a Jirachi if they had a copy of the Pokémon Colosseum Bonus Disk for the Nintendo GameCube. Jirachi has yet to be made available in the man-line Pokémon games outside of Mystery Gift events since Pokémon Colosseum was released in 2003. The process of obtaining a Jirachi may be tedious, but it also offers a way to Shiny hunt the Mythical Pokémon.
Shiny Hunting Jirachi In Pokémon
In order to Shiny hunt Jirachi, players will need a couple of games and a few pieces of equipment. The hunter will need a Nintendo GameCube to Game Boy Advance cable, A Game Boy Advance/SP, a Nintendo GameCube, an English copy of Pokémon: Saphire or Ruby, and a copy of the Pokémon Colosseum Bonus Disk. The final thing that players will need for this hunt is patience. Each reset/encounter with Jirachi can take between 8 and 10 minutes making it one of the hardest Shiny hunts to date.
It is important to note that players who want to hunt Shiny Jirachi will need a copy of Pokémon: Saphire/Ruby that they are okay with resetting the save data. This is because only 1 Jirachi can be obtained per save file, and hunting Jirachi requires the player to reset their game after every encounter. To reset the save data, players can press UP + B + X on the game’s main menu. After the player resets their game’s save data, they will need to play through the beginning portion of the game until they have received the Pokédex from Professor Birch. Players will then need to save their game. Playing through this first section is the longest portion of the hunt.
Hunters will then need to turn on their GameCube with the Colosseum Bonus Disk inserted, and make sure their Game Boy is linked to the GameCube using a Link Cable. The GameCube will then display a menu with multiple options, and players will want to select the Special Gift option with the picture of Jirachi. From here players will be walked through the process of how to transfer the Jirachi which is pretty straightforward. The transfer process can take a few moments and is followed by a long cutscene depicting how the Jirachi is transferred. Now, players can hop back into their game of Pokémon: Saphire/Ruby and check their party to see if their Jirachi is Shiny. If not, players will need to wipe their save and start the process over. Repeat the steps above until the hunter finds their own Shiny Jirachi.
Pokémon Colosseum is available on the Nintendo GameCube. Pokémon: Saphire/Ruby are available on the Game Boy Advance/SP.
