Months after a dog was abandoned at Pittsburgh International Airport, another dog was found alone at the facility.
On Thursday, the Allegheny County Police Department (ACPD) posted on Facebook that the agency “was alerted to a dog that was tied to a pole and appeared to be abandoned in a short-term parking garage.”
According to ACPD, officers arrived at the parking lot Thursday afternoon, shortly after receiving calls about the puppy, and took the dog away. The dog, identified by WTAE as a Chihuahua, was found in good condition and without a microchip.
“There is no excuse for leaving pets behind,” the police department added in its Facebook statement about the incident. The publication also published a photo of a dog tied to a pole in the parking lot.
After picking up the puppy, ACPD released an update on the animal on social media, sharing several photos from inside the airport showing a man with a dog that appears to have been found in the parking lot.
“We would like to identify this man and speak to him in relation to the dog that was left at the airport today. At this time we believe he was a ticketed passenger who spent some time at the airport before leaving the dog in the short term parking garage before his flight,” ACPD wrote in its update.
The police department concluded the announcement by asking anyone with information about the dog and how the pet ended up alone at the airport to contact the county police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time the police department has dealt with a situation like this. In August, ACPD was called to the Pittsburgh airport after a dog was found alone in a stroller in the airport’s short-term parking lot.

An investigation revealed the dog had been abandoned by its owner, who “intentionally left the dog near short-term parking before boarding a plane to a resort in Mexico,” according to an ACPD update in late August.
It added that the dog is now in a loving foster home thanks to the help of Animal Friends, an animal shelter based in Pittsburgh.
