Popcaan grew up in Portmore after being born on July 19, 1988 in Saint Thomas, Jamaica. Popcaan was given the name “Andrae Hugh Sutherland” at birth. He later became famous under the pseudonym “Popcaan”. Popcaan attended “Happy Grove High School” for his formal education.
Popcaan showed a deep love and passion for dancehall music, a popular type of Jamaican music in Kingston, during his early years of education. Popcaan soon felt the urge to work as a dancehall artist in Jamaica.
