Popy Hazarika was born on Tuesday, December 8, 1998 (age 24; as of 2022) in Namti Salkathoni village, Sibsagar, Assam, India. Her zodiac sign is Sagittarius. She started training under coach Duljit Baruah in 2013 and has made significant progress in a short period of time. When she won the gold medal at the 2014 regional games, her coach Duljit Baruah said:

Her coach Om Prakash Kalyani talked about her family situation, physical condition and achievements in an interview and said:
