Popy Hazarika was born on Tuesday, December 8, 1998 (age 24; as of 2022) in Namti Salkathoni village, Sibsagar, Assam, India. Her zodiac sign is Sagittarius. She spent her childhood practicing discus and javelin in the village. She once visited a weightlifting camp at Swahid Peoli Phukan College near her village with her friend Dimpy Dutta, where she met coach Duljit Boruah and started practicing weightlifting at his camp.

Profession

She started training under coach Duljit Baruah in 2013 and has made significant progress in a short period of time. When she started training she weighed only 35 kilograms, and after a few days she started picking up weights that were almost equal to her body weight. When she won the gold medal at the 2014 regional games, her coach Duljit Baruah said:

“Poppy was of good height at a young age, and because she entered athletics early in life, she didn’t have any difficulty with her pre-training running training. Her coach Om Prakash Kalyani talked about her family situation, physical condition and achievements in an interview and said:

“When she became the 48kg state champion, she chose to snatch 50kg and clean and jerk 60kg. Her advantage was her height and the initial speed of lifting the barbell. She is a natural athlete and will do well in running training. Train on her own to build endurance. The only problem I have as a coach is the need to keep motivating her. We know this is very difficult for her family and like any young person she will break down. But then we always There will be talk about the next medal and that is still the case.”

She started training at the national camp in Delhi and won many medals in senior competitions. National team head coach Vijayta Sharma was impressed with her tenacity and dedication. He said of her in an interview:

“Her main advantage is that we don’t have to motivate her. She has struggled so much that she knows she has to work hard.
