Mocking tamil superstar rajinikanth
Debutant filmmaker Pradeep Ranganathan came into the limelight in 2019 when a scene from the trailer of his film Comali went viral, featuring actor Jayam · Jayam Ravi mocks superstar Rajinikanth for announcing his entry into politics. This became the subject of controversy on social media. Fans of Rajinikanth started following #BoycottComali on Twitter and demanded an apology from the filmmaker. The scene includes Jayam Ravi, who wakes up after 16 years in a vegetative state. When Ravi’s friend (played by Yogi Babu) shows him a clip of Rajinikanth announcing his entry into politics, he doesn’t believe it was in 2016. Rajinikanth’s fans were not too happy with the scene and they asked the director to remove it from the film. In fact, Rajinikanth had hinted at entering politics as early as 1996, but he actually entered politics only in December 2017. The director said he had no intention of hurting anyone’s feelings. He said,
Mr. Rajini had hinted at entering politics in 1996. Our character wakes up after a coma and realizes that Mr. Ragini has finally ventured into politics. That was the message we were trying to convey with that scene. “
After all the detailed discussions, it was finally decided to remove the scene from the trailer and the movie.

He said he was inspired by the American film Back to the Future (1985), a dubbed version of the science fiction film that aired on television. Pradeep was impressed by the film and decided to enter the film industry. Not only that, but even today, whenever he starts filming a movie, he mentions Back to the Future. He said in an interview,
I discovered this movie as a kid via the TV dubbed version and found it very exciting. Looking back, Back to the Future was the foundation of the story and script structure that I followed. Before I start working on my film, I revisit the film. The beginning, midpoint, ending and climax are all beautifully defined. Even the sets are well designed and all important aspects are introduced to us within 20 minutes before getting to the main plot. That’s what I took away from this entertaining movie. In fact, when I started making “Comali,” I wanted to do a time travel movie like “Back to the Future,” and coma, as an element, actually helped me bridge between timelines. “

This movie is not a revenge story about a boy pursuing his ex-girlfriend. The dedication in the slogan is similar to dedicating the award you received to the people around you. About 10% of the movie is actually based on my own life, which is a sweet dedication to my ex. The film will end with a happy ending. Positive message. “
