Pretty Little Liars Cast Recalls Show's 'Bait-and-Switch' Ending — and Its 'Biggest Turning Point'

The cast Sweet little liars is in doubt about the season finale.

During a panel at Epic Cons in Chicago earlier this month, the former PLL cast members Troian Bellisario (Spencer Hastings), Keegan Allen (Toby Cavanaugh), Torrey DeVitto (Melissa Hastings) and Ashley Benson (Hannah Marin) shared their thoughts on the final episode, the identity of the final “A” and the series’ highlight twist.

Bellisario, 39, said of the ending: “I wish we could have introduced Alex [Drake] much earlier. My only frustration was that it felt like a complete bait and switch as we waited until the last episode. So it wasn’t as fun for the audience, I guess, as it was when CeCe Drake was.”

She suggested that it would have been more satisfying if CeCe had been the final antagonist because viewers “could kind of understand the motivations” and “know the character”.

“So all of a sudden, within an hour, it had to make sense and also bring closure to all the stories that everyone loved so much – that was the only thing,” the actress continued. “I liked that I had the chance to do that, but I wish we had fleshed it out a little more so it didn’t take away from the more important storytelling points of the finale.”

Referring to the many deaths that occurred during the program’s seven-season run, the cast chose Sasha Pieterse’s Alison DiLaurentis to revive, which happened in season five when she returned to the series.

“It was truly the biggest turning point in the show,” Bellisario said. “When we found out she was still alive, that changed the whole series because then there weren’t just four of us, there were five of us.”

The cast also had another reveal while answering questions from the audience: Sydney Sweeney appeared on the Freeform series finale.

“I’m in the Twilight Zone,” DeVitto (39) reacted with shock. “What?”

After Allen, 34, confirmed Euphoria cameo stars, began to pace back and forth across the stage.

“Fuck her,” he said. “Man. What’s the world, man? Bro, bro.”
