Kate said the diagnosis came as a “huge shock” – but promised: “I’m fine and getting stronger every day”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, released a brief statement following the announcement.

The couple said: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family and hope she can do so alone and in peace.”

Kate informed the world of her shock diagnosis in a heartbreaking video posted on Friday at 6 p.m.

In her speech, she talked about how the cancer was discovered and thanked her husband Prince William for his support.

She also said she broke the news to her children; George, 10, Charlotte, 8, and five-year-old Louis – telling them she will be “OK”.

The Princess of Wales said the cancer was discovered after she had “major” abdominal surgery in January.

At first, everything found was considered “non-cancerous”, but post-operative tests revealed that cancer was present.

She said: “My medical team have therefore advised me to undergo preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.

“Of course this was a big shock.

Kate Middleton was horribly bullied, but that’s not why she revealed she had cancer

“William and I have been doing everything we can to process this privately for the benefit of our young family.

“As you can imagine, it took time. I needed time to recover from major surgery to start my treatment.”

More from Kate’s emotional message…

She chose not to reveal the type of cancer she had.

Other family members, including the royal family, also paid tribute to Kate following the diagnosis.

Tonight, Buckingham Palace said the king was “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking out” and that he remains in “closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law”.

Kate’s brother James Middleton paid tribute with a candid picture of the two when they were children.

He also said in an Instagram post: “We’ve climbed many mountains together over the years. As a family, we’ll climb this one with you.”

Prince Harry rushed to London from California to see his father, the King, after Charles was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

But a brief statement released tonight did not detail whether he would do the same for his sister-in-law.

Father and son reunited at Clarence House in February for their first face-to-face meeting in 16 months.

But Harry didn’t meet William after a deep rift between the brothers.

The couple stood up and spoke to the crowd at the Kinsey Collection of African American Art and History event at SoFi Stadium.

Kensington Palace cannot say when the chemotherapy will end.

Kate’s abdominal procedure was performed at a London clinic on January 16, Kensington Palace confirmed.

She was last officially seen with her family at a Christmas church service in Sandringham.

Her absence was plagued by vile conspiracy theories about her whereabouts in the weeks following the announcement.

On March 4, Kate was seen for the first time after the operation. while she was driving in the car with her mother Carole, 69.

It is understood Kate’s cancer diagnosis was the reason William pulled out of the church service at the last minute.

Prince William did not attend the Thanksgiving service held in honor of the late King Constantine of Greece on February 27 – citing a “personal matter”.

It is the second cancer shock to hit the royal family after King Charles was also diagnosed two months ago.

Charles spent three nights in the same hospital being treated for an “enlarged prostate” after which the cancer was discovered.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also released a statement wishing the princess well.

He said: “She has shown enormous courage in her statement today.

“She has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks and has been treated unfairly by certain sections of the media around the world and on social media.”

I wanted to take this opportunity to personally thank you for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding while I was recovering from surgery.

It’s been an incredibly difficult few months for our whole family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken excellent care of me, for which I’m very grateful.

In January I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time my condition was thought to be non-cancerous. The operation was successful. However, tests after the operation showed that the cancer was present. My medical team therefore advised that I undergo preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.

This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and resolve this privately for the sake of our young family.

As you can imagine, this took time. It took me some time to recover from the major surgery before I could start the treatment. But most importantly, we needed time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that was convenient for them and to reassure them that I would be fine.

As I told them; I am fine and getting stronger every day by focusing on things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirit.

Having William by my side is also a great source of comfort and security. As well as the love, support and kindness shown by so many of you. It means a lot to both of us.

We hope you will understand that we, as a family, need some time, space and privacy now while I complete my treatment. Work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to returning when I can, but for now I must focus on a full recovery.

At this moment, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been touched by cancer. We ask everyone who is facing this disease, in any form, not to lose faith and hope. You are not alone.
