Prince Harry hates being overshadowed by Meghan and moans about feeling like ‘The Spare’ again as he plots return to UK

PRINCE Harry laments to friends that he feels like Spare in exile in the US again — and might want to come home.

The Duke, who wrote his memoir Spara about growing up in the shadow of his brother William, the heir to the throne, is increasingly dissatisfied with life in California.

And in yesterday’s shock claims, he is said to be seeking guidance on returning to Britain – and the royal family.

Harry, 39, is said to have consulted his former trusted associates here after growing tired of the Hollywood staff he and wife Meghan employ.

Friends say he feels he’s lost his way and doesn’t like her overshadowing him in public.

Meghan, 43, took center stage during their visits to Nigeria in May and Colombia last month.

And those in Harry’s inner circle have noted that he appears to be enjoying regular solo trips back to the UK, while Meghan refuses to set foot in the country.

His visit last week to the memorial of his uncle, Lord Fellowes, met with approval among these friends.

A source close to them told The Sun: “Harry is feeling increasingly isolated in California, which is why he is reconnecting with old friends back home.

“The trip to Colombia also really highlighted how comfortable Meghan is to step into the limelight, while Harry has a very grumpy, unhappy character in the background.

“She wants to find her way back into royal life in the UK and is seeking advice from old friends and associates.”

But those close to him accept that there is still much work to be done to heal the rifts he has created.

Harry and William have no chance of reconciling if they can’t even speak at their uncle’s funeral, says an expert

In his 2023 memoir Spare, he took aim at his immediate family, accusing William of knocking him to the floor during an argument.

He claimed that William called Meghan “difficult”, “cheeky” and “abrasive” and that William’s wife Kate was cold towards her.

Royal biographer Angela Levin said he had become unhappy of late. She added: “You could say that Harry is not even a backup to his wife. He is almost nothing.

“She treats him terribly. If you look at their recording in Colombia and Africa, nothing is asked of him. He was pushed out of the way.”

But she added: “I was completely and utterly surprised to learn that Harry was trying to get his old friends to help him get back into his own family.”
