Prince William and Kate look round £47k-a-year Oxford school for George, 10, after Eton ‘argument’

The Prince and Princess of Wales are reportedly considering a £47,000-a-year Oxford school for their son Prince George, 10 – after ‘disagreeing’ over sending him to Eton.

The royal couple are said to have toured the elite St Edward’s School, also known as “Teddies” – which boasts Oppenheimer actress Florence Pugh as a graduate.

According to the Daily Mail, the co-educational boarding and day school – which gives 13- to 18-year-olds the chance to try their hand at screenwriting and beekeeping – has caught the eye of Prince William and Kate.

Richard Eden wrote: “‘They were there to look,’ a Teddies great tells me.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales considered several schools for their eldest son, including their home schools of Eton and Marlborough College.

Another favorite is said to be Oundle School in North Northamptonshire, The Mail on Sunday reported.

The independent co-educational institution, founded in 1556, costs between £22,350 and £45,435 a year.

The website reads: “We encourage aspiration and abhor arrogance, fostering open minds, authentic confidence and a sense of service.”

This comes after Kate was reportedly left “heartbroken” by Prince William’s wish to send Prince George to Eton College when he turns 13, a royal insider has claimed.

Both Prince William and his brother Prince Harry attended Eton College, which costs £15,432 per term, breaking with royal tradition as senior members of the royal family previously attended Gordonstoun in north-east Scotland.

The mother-of-three is not believed to be keen on single-sex schools such as Eton as she reportedly “absolutely hated” her time at Downe House, a girls’ boarding school in Berkshire, where she was allegedly bullied.

Speaking to In Touch Weekly, a source said Kate is “heartbroken” at the thought of sending her son to boarding school because she was “horribly bullied” and “can’t bear the thought of George suffering because of it.”

The source claimed that Kate and William spent “years” arguing over the idea of sending their children to boarding school.

They added: “Kate thinks sending him to such a stifling high-ranking institution is at odds with all their efforts to modernize the monarchy.

“Besides, she’s going to miss George terribly.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales were also spotted visiting Kate’s old co-educational private school in Wilshire, Marlborough College, twice in two months, leading to speculation that they might send Prince George there rather than the all-boys school Eton College.

Meanwhile, Kate attended the exclusive Marlborough College between 1996 and 2000.

George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, all currently attend Lambrook, a co-educational day prep school.

Sending George to Oundle would allow his siblings to join their brother at the same school.
