Putin fires ICBM for FIRST time in war amid crippling revenge blitz across Ukraine after Storm Shadow & ATACMS strikes

RUSSIA has launched a revenge attack on Ukraine following its long-range missile attacks – firing an intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time.

It comes after Kiev launched US ATACMS missiles into Putin territory overnight on Monday – and British Storm Shadow missiles on Wednesday in a double victory.

Russia warned it would “react appropriately” as embassies in the capital Kiev were closed on Wednesday amid fears of a reprisal strike.

Putin’s forces launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) RS-26 Rubež this morning.

The Kremlin has also sent Tu-95MS strategic bombers to launch cruise missiles at conflict-ridden Ukraine.

Kiev’s air force confirmed the ICBM was launched from Astrakhan, in southern Russia, on Thursday morning – the first time it had been used in war.

NATO raised F-16 warplanes over Poland amid barrage fire – putting air defenses and radar systems on alert.

Six different warheads were reportedly shown falling on the city from a Russian ICBM.

Unverified footage appears to show an explosion and fire in multiple locations across the country.

Kinžal hypersonic missiles also hit the city of Dnieper, and Kremenchuk and Mirgorod were also bombed.

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky said that a “new Russian missile” hit the Dnieper today.

Marking the Day of Dignity and Freedom in his county, he said, referring to the alleged intercontinental ballistic missile launched by Vladimir Putin’s forces: “Today, our crazy neighbor showed once again what he really is and how he despises dignity, freedom and human life in general.”

A Russian military blog claims that the deadly weapon hit the Patriot air defense system in the town of Aviatorske in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine.

Moscow has warned for months that Ukraine’s use of Western long-range missiles would mark a major escalation.

In September, a snarling Putin said it would “mean that NATO countries are at war with Russia.”

Local media reported that Russia is threatening to attack Kiev with a “massive” new missile in retaliation for this week’s strikes.

Putin’s men were apparently preparing to launch RS-26 intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Meanwhile, Russia strongly condemned the opening of a new US ballistic missile defense base in Redzikowo, a village in Poland.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said it had been added to “a list of priority targets for potential destruction which, if necessary, can be carried out with a wide range of advanced weapons.”

Could Putin use chemical weapons next?

A troubled dictator could unleash deadly chemical weapons within weeks as his invasion of Ukraine progresses, a former NATO commander has warned.

Hamish de Bretton-Gordon insisted that the Kremlin could make a very dangerous move out of desperation.

He told The Sun’s Never Mind The Ballots: “Putin is completely distraught.

“He could have already lost up to 700,000 soldiers.”

The former NATO commander explained the importance of Kursk, where Ukrainian troops entered in August.

He added: “Now, as Ukraine strikes back with US ATACMS and British Storm Shadow missiles, he knows his Kursk forces are unaware.”

The expert revealed that this could prompt Putin to launch a devastating chemical attack.

Bretton-Gordon said the Russians had already used chemical weapons on an industrial scale in the East.

He added that a small change could have devastating consequences for the war.

The former NATO commander added: “If Putin replaced that chloropicrin with the Novichok he used in Salisbury, then thousands of people could be killed.”

On Tuesday, a flustered Putin gave the go-ahead for a new nuclear doctrine just hours after Ukraine’s ATACMS attack, in retaliation for the US relaxing its missile licenses.

President Joe Biden on Sunday approved a decision allowing Ukraine to fire US missiles inside Russia.

The Kremlin said it marked the crossing of a red line – officially putting nuclear retaliation on the table.

Putin’s propaganda stooges have been spewing threats against the US and the UK on TV – with Kremlin top brass Dmitry Peskov vowing that the Ukrainian military’s use of Western non-nuclear missiles could trigger a nuclear response.

Ukraine used ATACMS missiles to hit a military depot in Bryansk – marking a major event on the 1,000th day of the brutal war.

A video of one of the missiles fired by Russia today

Footage last night revealed the moment Ukraine allegedly fired Storm Shadow missiles inside Russia for the first time.

The unconfirmed video shows the Kursk resident pointing to the sky before loud bangs are heard in the background.

Meanwhile, other aerial footage purportedly showing the attack captured rockets exploding a site in Kursk with an underground control room, Ukrainian defense experts said.

Huge plumes of smoke could be seen billowing from the site, before an orange fireball engulfed the building.

Reports suggest the attack was aimed at a location where North Korean generals may have been present along with senior Russian military leaders.

The Russian Defense Ministry was forced to admit on Thursday that at least two Storm Shadow missiles were fired by Ukraine.

Fragments of bunker busting rockets were found on Wednesday in the village of Marine in Kursk, it was learned.

According to reports, the Ukrainian aircraft launched up to 12 missiles.

British Storm Shadow missiles are a nightmare for enemies because they are able to evade anti-aircraft defenses.

The £800,000 weapon – which has already been fired inside Ukraine – uses GPS to pinpoint targets and can travel at speeds of 600mph.
