Quavo to Award $100K to Atlanta Organizations Working to Prevent Gun Violence

Quavo is launching a $100,000 gun prevention program in Atlanta.

The rapper, 32, and his foundation, The Rocket Foundation, launched the SPARK Grants program on Wednesday to work to reduce gun violence in Atlanta.

According to a press release, the program will help foster community resilience by awarding $10,000 to 10 organizations working to reduce violence in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Nonprofit grantees will then work with The Rocket Foundation on initiatives that will help make a difference in the community.

Quavo opens up about Takeoff’s death: ‘Sometimes I cry myself to sleep’

“I am honored to launch this grant program in honor of Takeo and the countless families who have been affected by gun violence,” Quavo said in a statement. “The Rocket Foundation will award $100,000 in SPARK grants to local organizations dedicated to reducing violence in the Atlanta community.”

He added, “There’s a lot of important work going on in ATL right now, and part of our mission is to elevate these organizations and support them to help save more lives.”

Organizations have until April 21 to apply for a grant and “must be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit or fiscally sponsor, apply for an existing or pilot initiative that impacts the Atlanta metropolitan area.”

It is also preferred that applicants be based or headquartered in Atlanta, as well as have “evidence of an evidence-based initiative.”

While nine organizations will be decided by the Rocket Foundation, the tenth non-profit organization will be voted on by the general public via the Rocket Foundation website.

Meanwhile, all 10 endorsement recipients will be announced on June 18, marking the birthday of Quavo’s nephew and fellow Migos member, Takeoff.

Takeoff died at the age of 28 in November 2022 after being shot outside a downtown bowling alley in Houston, Texas.

Quavo founded The Rocket Foundation in 2022 to honor Takeoff’s life and legacy, supporting programs that work to prevent gun violence.
