Queen Camilla Says King Charles Is 'Getting Better' amid Cancer Treatment — But Adds a Quippy Caveat

King Charles has resumed public royal duties amid cancer treatment, but Queen Camilla had a small warning for her husband during her latest outing.

Giving an update on the 75-year-old monarch’s health, the Queen told guests at a garden party at the Lamb House in Rye on May 16 that the king was “on the mend”. according to royal reporter Roya Nikkhah. However, Queen Camilla, 76, then added: “Well, he would if he behaved himself.”

Although she did not elaborate, Queen Camilla and other members of the royal family have previously said that King Charles was disappointed by the slowdown in his duties amid cancer treatment. The monarch’s nephew Peter Phillips told Sky News Australia The Royal Report in March that the king is “frustrated that he can’t manage and do everything he wants.”

“He’s always trying, his staff and everybody, his doctors and nurses, to be able to say, ‘Actually, can I do this? Can I do that?’ ” Peter continued about his uncle. “So the main message would be that he clearly wants very much to return to some form of normalcy.

Queen Camilla’s comments came during a solo day in Sussex celebrating literature. At the Charleston festival, a child asked her about a fictional place she would like to visit.

“The only place I won’t go is The cat in the hat“, she replied with laughter from the crowd.

She continued, “One place I’d like to go is Hogwarts,” referring to the school for witches and wizards from Harry Potter books. She explained that she would love to ride the Hogwarts Express, visit the Great Hall, be placed in the Sorting Hat house, and see the moving portraits hung around the castle.

“I think it would be a real magical experience,” she said.

Queen Camilla has previously shared her love for Harry Potter, including reading a series of books with his five grandchildren. However, she admitted that King Charles was more talented when it came to speaking in different voices for the characters.

“I can’t imitate voices for love or money, I’m completely hopeless at it,” she said in the first episode The Queen’s Reading Room Podcast, published earlier this year. “I was a very bad actress at school and I could never master the art of mime. But my husband, he does it brilliantly. He can do all the voices.”
