Questlove to Publish New Book on Hip-Hop: ‘Couldn’t Be More Excited’ (Exclusive)

Questlove is back with another book. The Roots drummer revealed exclusively to PEOPLE that he will be releasing a new book about the music. Hip-hop is history, which will be released on June 11, is published by the author AUWA Books. “I’ve been with hip-hop since the beginning and it’s been with me just as long,” says Questlove. “He was my friend and my companion, my coach and my advisor, a source of information and inspiration.”

Hip-hop is history, written with frequent collaborator Ben Greenman, taps into Questlove’s long history with the genre, according to a statement obtained by PEOPLE. Questlove, who grew up in a musical family in Philadelphia, listened to hip-hop intensively as a child, and even started making his own music at an early age. Those early efforts paid off in the long run; since then he has won six Grammy Awards.

In the book, Questlove will explore the cultural and creative origins of the genre and highlight influential hits and those that have been largely forgotten. He will also include previously unknown stories, offering his perspective as both an “obsessive fan” and a musician within the genre itself. Questlove is no stranger to the publishing industry.
