Quinta Brunson’s Stylist Responds to ‘Wrinkled’ Emmys Dress Outrage: ‘It’s Crushed Satin!’

Jessica Paster, who works as a stylist for Abbott Elementary School star, shared why Brunson’s dark pink Dior dress appeared wrinkled in photos taken of the actress at the event after several people commented about it online.

One commenter wrote of the dress on Instagram: “Love the color, not sure it suits her, but the pleats! How is she allowed to go out?” Another wrote: “Love the shape, hate the wrinkles. I know it’s supposed to be wrinkled on purpose, but that’s just how it looks [wasn’t] enough steam. Like it was meant to be completely squished if that makes sense.”

Others joked about the dress not being ironed, including one who wrote: “Who forgot to iron this dress 😥 (I know it’s supposed to be, but no, just- no).”

In response, Paster wrote, “guys guys guys… that’s crushed satin… I knew you were going to say something!! It’s a beautiful silhouette [sic] on her and the fabric… and the color is beautiful.”

The 34-year-old actress wore the dress, which featured a square neckline and a full skirt, as she collected the award for best lead actress in a comedy at the event – becoming the first black woman to do so in 42 years on Monday. 75th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

Brunson stars as Philadelphia teacher Janine Teagues on the hit ABC series. It earned three Emmy nominations this year, including a nod for comedy series Abbott Elementary School — which she created, writes and executive produces — and an Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category for a host Saturday night live.

While the writer and producer seemed to be happy with her Emmys look overall, she previously revealed that she used to have a hard time finding the right dress for the event. “Not only am I 4-foot-11, [but] I’m 4-foot-11 with a chest and a butt,” Brunson said. “And that’s the cardinal sin: being short and having the guts to have any kind of curve.”

“There were times when I worked with other stylists and had to be like, ‘I’m not this young’ or ‘this looks too young.’ And it would be like, ‘No, you can pull it off,'” Brunson said. “And I said, ‘But it’s not about me performing it. It’s about what I want to represent when I come to certain awards shows or certain events that I have to do.’ ”

“I’m not just an actress, not just a writer, not just a producer, not just a show host,” she added. “I want to make sure I can convey who I am through what I wear.”
