Rachael Ray Took the Stage at Burger Bash Event Before Revealing She Had ‘a Couple of Bad Falls’

Rachael Ray was unable to do her favorite household chores after her injury.

In the first episode of her new podcast, I’ll sleep when I’m dead Ray, 56, told guest Jenny Mollen that she had a few “bad falls” that left her unable to do around the house.

“I really like housework,” Ray said. “I like what people consider manual labor. I love making dinner, planning dinners, making lists. I like physical work, helping to carry wood.”

“I’ve had a few nasty falls in the last few weeks, so I haven’t done that in a while,” she continued.

The episode aired on October 22, but was probably taped in advance. Ray appeared in good spirits at the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival a few days earlier on October 18, where she hosted her annual Burger Bash event. There she took the stage with her husband John Cusiman.

She hosted the event on stage and helped announce the winner of the annual burger contest. “Thank you all for coming out,” she told the crowd.

Rachael Ray Says She Fights With Her Husband All The Time: ‘It’s Healthy’

Ray and Cusimano, a musician and attorney, married in 2005. During her podcast conversation with Mollen, the celebrity chef and TV host also talked about how she and her longtime husband handle their arguments.

“It’s very difficult, especially for horny, creative or loud people who can just calm it down,” she said. “John and I never calm it down. We have fierce matches all the time, but I think that’s healthy. I really want to. And I don’t trust people who are too quiet.”

“Too quiet drives me crazy,” Ray added. “I’d rather you tell me what you mean when you mean it and let’s talk it out.”

Mollen then asked Ray who usually apologizes first.

“I don’t know if we ever apologized to each other,” Ray replied. “I end up patting his ass or he kisses me on the head, and that’s it. That’s an excuse. It’s just kind of understandable. ‘I still like your ass.’ ‘I still like your head.’ He’s kind of in that zone.”

Ray announced that she is launching her first podcast on October 15th, sharing the news exclusively with PEOPLE. I’ll sleep when I’m dead explores “what drives us — our drive, resilience and how we face life’s challenges,” according to a press release for the new project.

The announcement adds that the series will feature a “melting pot” of discussions with celebrities, chefs, artists, musicians and other notables – with “no subject restrictions”.

I’ll sleep when I’m dead (literally!) it’s about life’s journeys and what drives us,” Ray said in a statement. “It’s an unscripted, raw and real conversation. Work motivates me, connecting with people motivates me, and this platform makes it possible to connect and talk on a more personal level, which really motivates me.”
