From Sukhvinder Kaur to Radhe Maa
As a child, she used to visit the Maa Kaali temple in the village and according to some of her followers, she was inclined towards religion and spirituality from an early age. She married into a lower-middle-class family and to support her family financially, she opened a tailoring shop “Babbu Tailor” where she used to provide tailoring training to local women and girls.
In 1986, her husband was transferred from Mukeriya to work in a construction company in Doha. After her husband went to Doha, Radhe Maa suffered from mental disorder. She often went to the local temple to seek peace, where she met “Shri Mahan Ramdeen Das” of 1008 Paramhans Bagh Dera Mukerian in Hosiyapur.
She followed him for nearly six months of deeksha or spiritual training and he named her “Radhe Maa”. Soon, she started organizing jagrans and chowkis in her village and nearby villages. With the help of her few devotees, the news of her miracles began to spread in the villages near her hometown and people from neighboring states began to visit her for spiritual guidance. According to some of her fellow villagers, by then, she had learned black magic and started practicing it on people. At that time, she lived a simple life and wore a white dress.
Many business families started calling her to their homes for rallies and gatherings. One of the businessmen was Arun Nanda, a resident of Phagwara in Punjab. In 2002, Nanda organized rallies in the name of Radhema at his home. When Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena activists came to know that Radhema claimed to be an incarnation of the goddess, they protested in front of Arun Nanda’s house for nearly three hours and said that Radhema should publicly apologize for misleading the people.
When the protests got out of control, Radhema came out to apologize in front of the media and according to some sources, she said that she was a common man and not an incarnation of any goddess.
After this incident, she moved to Delhi, but she continued to hold chowkis and jagran in Haryana, Delhi and Punjab. During one of the chowkis in Delhi, a businessman from Mumbai, Sanjeev Gupta, noticed her and invited her to Mumbai for jagran. Sanjeev Gupta is one of the owners of the famous sweets chain “MM Mithaiwala” in Mumbai.
According to Sanjeev Gupta, Radhema had predicted some things about him which later came true and since then he became her devotee. Later, he asked Radhema to shift to his residence in Mumbai permanently.
Soon after moving to Mumbai, she started gaining popularity among the city’s wealthy families, and many prominent Indian politicians, businessmen and Bollywood celebrities became her followers.
Radhema’s list of followers included Indian celebrities such as Subhash Ghai, Ravi Kishan and Dolly Bindra (the latter later accused Radhema of engaging in prohibited activities). Later, Radhema became the brand ambassador of Sanjeev Gupta’s “Global Advertising Agency”.
It was only after she settled in Mumbai that she started dressing like a newlywed North Indian bride. She started wearing red dresses, red bridal bangles, a trident and heavy makeup.
She is always accompanied by her two closest followers, Chhoti maa and Talli baba.
