In 1996, he met Indian actress Mandira Bedi while working as a chief assistant and auditioning for the show “Philips 10”. By then, Mandira had gained huge popularity with her television show “Shanti” (1994) and the Hindi film “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (1995). Raj first met her when she came to audition and he liked her immediately. In an interview, Raj talked about meeting Mandira for the first time. He said,
Seven years ago, we met in producer Nitin Manmohan’s office. I am Mukul Anand’s chief assistant and I am busy auditioning for a countdown show called Philips Top 10. Mandira was also asked to audition. That was the first time I met her. She was wearing a red and white striped T-shirt and khaki pants. I had seen her in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge but I had never really noticed her until then. We met often at Mukul Anand’s house. It wasn’t until we met three times that I knew she was the one. I told her I was thinking about getting married. She is vegetarian and I am non-vegetarian. Some of our first dates were at the Udipi Hotel. “

Later, they met more and more often and soon fell in love with each other. In an interview, Mandira talked about Raj. she says,
He is a basic guy and very honest. He is not fake like those who wear masks to hide their true selves. For Raj, that’s it – what you see is what you get. “
In an interview, Raj said of Mandira:
Mandira is an educated, intelligent and beautiful girl. As someone in the same industry, she knows how busy life can be. She has always supported us even when we faced difficulties. Very simple. I met her, liked her, and pursued her. I don’t think anyone wants to miss this opportunity. “
He further spoke about his first meeting with Mandira’s parents. He said,
My parents didn’t object, in fact, my mother was really happy that I was settling down. Since she comes from a family of bankers, meeting her parents was a bit awkward at first. Her father is a total business man. But they warmed to me quickly. I guess they have no choice! “
On the eve of Valentine’s Day on February 14, 1999, the couple had two wedding ceremonies, first tying the knot as per Arya Samaj and then as per Anand Karaj.

Nearly 12 years later, the couple gave birth to a baby boy named Vir Kaushal. In July 2020, Raj and Mandira adopted a girl and named her Tara Bedi Kaushal.

He died of cardiac arrest at 4:30 am on June 30, 2021. After his death, many Indian celebrities expressed their displeasure. Indian actor Ronit Roy shared a heartfelt message on his social media account. He wrote,
