Rakesh Verma was born on Sunday, April 25, 1971, in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh (50 years old as of 2021). His star sign is Taurus. He received his education in Uttar Pradesh and went to the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi to pursue his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering (1988-1992). After that, he appeared for the UPSC examinations and passed them to become an IAS officer in the Punjab cadre in 1993.

Profession
Rakesh Verma was appointed as IAS officer on September 5, 1993 from Punjab cadre. He successfully completed the training and was appointed as Deputy Commissioner, Kapurthala District, Punjab, in March 2002. Rakesh worked there for about three years and joined the Department of Transport as Director in May 2005. Next, he was appointed Head of the Department of Technical Education in December 2005.

He served as a director there until March 2006. Later, Verma was appointed as deputy commissioner of Patiala district in Punjab from April 2006 to April 2007. Later, he joined Punjab Infotech as Managing Director. In July 2012, Verma was appointed as the commissioner of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation in Punjab. He worked there for a year and then joined Chandigarh Department of Medical Education and Research as secretary.

In 2014, he was appointed Minister of Technical Education and Industrial Training. In 2020, Rakesh was appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, for a period of five years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
