Rapper Fatman Scoop Has Medical Emergency, Collapses on Stage and Is Taken to Hospital

Fatman Scoop was taken to hospital after collapsing during a concert performance.

The rapper, whose real name is Isaac Freeman III, collapsed on stage during a performance at Town Center Park in Hamden, Connecticut, on Friday, August 30, Mayor Lauren Garrett confirmed in a Facebook post.

“Tonight, while performing at Hamden Town Center Park, Isaac Freeman, aka Fatman Scoop, had a medical emergency on stage,” Garrett wrote of the 53-year-old artist. “He was transported by ambulance to the hospital. We will provide updates as they become available. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”

Authorities were called to the location for a medical emergency at 8:33 p.m., TMZ reported on Aug. 30. The Hamden Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for additional information.

In a video of the incident posted on X (formerly Twitter), Freeman appeared shirtless as he walked from the front of the stage to the back where a raised DJ booth was located. He stepped into the booth and said into the microphone, “I said, Hamden make the noise!”

The rapper then stood next to the DJ leaning forward on the booth. “Far down,” Freeman continued. “If you came to the party…make some noise…” He then leaned to the side, hitting the DJ, who fell to the ground behind the booth.

In concert footage shared by TMZ, what appeared to be medics wearing high-visibility vests applied pressure to Freeman’s chest as he lay motionless behind the booth as concertgoers watched. One concertgoer was also heard saying in the clip, “They’re doing KPR.”
