Reese Witherspoon and Oliver Haarmann have taken their relationship to the next level.
Multiple sources confirm exclusively to PEOPLE that the pair have gone from friends to dating after they were spotted together in New York for at least the second time in just over a month on Wednesday, Sept. 4, this time to open an Assouline event that also includes Roger Federer and Anna Wintour.
Financier Haarmann was dressed in khaki pants and a dark belt to match his shoes, with a light blue button-down shirt tucked under a darker blue jacket.
The Oscar-winning actress wore a short-sleeved black dress and matching strappy heels as they walked together, holding a black coat in her left hand.
“They’re friends and it’s just casual,” the insider says of their romance.
A representative for Witherspoon did not comment to PEOPLE.

Reese Witherspoon Dating History: From Ryan Phillippe to Jim Toth
Witherspoon and Haarmann, minority co-owner of the NHL’s New York Islanders and founding partner of Searchlight Capital, were previously photographed in the Big Apple on July 30.
The two arrived by helicopter on July 29 and dined at L’Artusa in the West Village the next day.
A source told PEOPLE at the time that Witherspoon and Haarmann were “friends,” while another insider said Legal blonde the actress “contested things when it came to dating.”
“She enjoys it, but she doesn’t want it to be a big focus. She’s busy with work and her son,” says the insider. – Those are her biggest priorities.

Witherspoon and ex-husband Jim Toth announced their divorce in March 2023, after nearly 12 years of marriage. The former couple has one child, 11-year-old son Tennessee. They settled the divorce by August 2023.
The Hello Sunshine founder also has two children with her first husband, fellow actor Ryan Phillippe: daughter Ava, 24, and son Deacon, 20.
During the conversation with Harper’s BAZAAR for the August 2023 issue of the magazine.
“Being able to talk to people directly about what’s going on in my life and just share it the way I share great professional experiences or personal experiences,” she said, “it feels a lot more authentic to be able to say things in my own voice and not let that someone else controls what happens.”
Added Witherspoon, “Then, of course, there’s speculation, but I can’t control that. All I can do is be the most honest, the most honest, and be vulnerable.”
