Richard Gere Jokes About Becoming Bilingual Ahead of 'Great' Move to Spain with Wife Alejandra Silva and Their Kids

Richard Gere is preparing for a big trip to Spain!

During an appearance on November 20 at Today show, A beautiful woman the actor, 75, opened up about the new trip he’s taking with his family to Madrid while discussing his upcoming series Agency.

“You, your wife and your children are moving to Spain!” host Savannah Guthrie told the actor. Gere has sons Alexander (5) and James (4) with her husband Alejandro Silva (41).

He replied: “My wife is Spanish, and we go there for her family, her friends, her culture. The kids are bilingual, so it will be really great for them.”

“Then you’ll be bilingual, hopefully…” Guthrie teased.

Joking, Gere said: “Perfect! Come to Spain, we’ll do the whole show in Spanish,” to which Guthrie replied, “Challenge accepted!”

The actor’s excitement about his family’s new chapter comes after he officially sold their $11 million home in New Canaan, Conn., in October.

Gere lived in the six-bedroom, 11-bathroom home with his wife and children for two years after purchasing it in 2022 for $10.8 million, according to the local New Canaan Advertiser. At one point after purchasing the property, Gere reportedly wanted to turn the property into a farm.

Along with his younger children, Gere is the father of a son, Homer (24), from his second marriage with Carey Lowell. Silva also has an 11-year-old son, Albert, with ex-husband Govinda Friedland.

During the interview with Vanity Fair Spain in April, Gere hinted at his plans to move to his wife’s home country so she could be close to her relatives there.

“It will be wonderful for Alejandra to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture,” he said. “She was very generous in giving me six years to live in my world, so it’s only fair that I give her at least another six years to live in hers.”

He continued: “I love Spain and I think your lifestyle is fantastic. Also your ability to live life conveying joy and happiness. It’s a beautiful place, the food is outstanding, and the people exude sensitivity and generosity, as well as a strong will to laugh and enjoy.”

While Gere was talking VF Spain that he’s ready for his upcoming “big adventure” since he’s never lived full-time outside the United States before,” he noted that he still maintains an estate “in the country near New York” to give him a foothold here.

Gere and Silva have been living in the US since they got married in 2018. They first met in Positano, Italy in 2014.

Agency airs November 29 on Paramount+/Showtime. Today airs weekdays on NBC (beginning at 7 a.m. ET).
