Rioting erupts in Hull inferno as Bristol thugs charged by mounted cops & police officer’s jaw broken in Liverpool

RIOTS have erupted across the UK with shops ransacked and cops violently attacked as the country faces another night of carnage.

Police forces were pushed to the brink as battles broke out from Portsmouth and Stoke to Liverpool, Manchester and Hull.

Intense rioting continued today after a wave of violence was sparked by fake news online.

Viral posts claimed a suspect accused of stabbing three young girls to death in Southport on Monday was a Muslim asylum seeker.

The chaos comes after a shocking night of violence in Sunderland where a police station was set on fire and cops were left injured.

Today’s violence saw Britain engulfed in fiery carnage as cars and shops were set ablaze.

Shocking images show vehicles and tyres torched on the streets of Hull as protesters gather in large numbers.

In Liverpool, a number of officers have been injured as chairs, bricks, bottles and flares were thrown.

Running clashes between the mob and officers in the Merseyside city left two officers hospitalised with a suspected broken jaw and broken nose.

Another harrowing video saw a lone cop forced off his motorbike and beaten by a hoard of thugs in the city.

Six people, aged between 29 and 58, have been arrested on suspicion of offences including violent disorder and criminal damage.

Cops have made multiple arrests in Bristol following “violent disorder” with mounted officers seen charging protesters after clashes.

In Portsmouth, around 400 far-right demonstrators were challenged by counter-protesters outside a migrant hotel.

Meanwhile masked yobs in Blackpool even used bottles and bricks to target disorientated police horses.

And a street fight broke out between rioters and  festival-goers at a punk music event Rebellion.

Cleveland Police have said two boys – aged 11 and 14 – have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder in Hartlepool.

Far-right thugs marched through Manchester today and quickly clashed with counter-protests by anti-racism groups.

A mass brawl in the city centre, said to have been sparked by  a flare being hurled, was broken up by baton-wielding cops.

Protesters tore down fences to chuck cans and glasses at other demonstrators as police put themselves between rival groups.

Other clashes developed in Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens and St Peter’s Square.

In Leeds, 150 activists carrying St George flags were outnumbered by counter-protesters shouting in defiance.

  • Mayor calls out violence

    Liverpool City region Mayor Steve Rotheram blasted the “mindless thuggery” of people “looking for an excuse to spew hatred and carry out acts of violence”.

    He said: “Families and tourists chased through the streets. Children traumatised. And the very police who ran towards the scene in Southport now subjected to assault and abuse.

    “It’s not on – especially while our region is still trying to come to terms with Monday’s tragic events.”

    The mayor said the shocking scenes “shame our city” and those responsible “deserve to feel the full weight of the law”.

  • Terrified families flee from Disney Princess cruise in Liverpool

    Terrified families who brought their children to see a Disney Princess cruise in Liverpool fled for their lives today after a mob of 1,500 thugs clashed with police.

    Running clashes between the mob and officers in the Merseyside city left two officers in hospital with a suspected broken jaw and broken nose, as yobs threw bricks and looted stores.

    Families with young children were forced to run from the area – including visiting tourists who had brought their kids to see the Disney Princess cruise ship docked nearby.

  • More than 20 arrests in Lancashire

    Police in Lancashire say they have arrested more than 20 people today.

    Officers had become “aware of possible disorder and protests planned in the county”.

    Offences included possession of an offensive weapon, police assault, possession of a bladed article, obstructing police, conspiracy to commit violent disorder and failing to adhere to a dispersal order.

  • Hull carnage escalates

    Rioters set cars on fire at a car park in Hull and some stores were ransacked in shocking scenes.

    Open borders counter-protesters gathered to try to fight the group but were kept separated by police.

    Masked yobs were seen gathering to throw bricks and bottles as windows were smashed at a hotel housing migrants.

    Earlier a shoezone was looted and set ablaze as the chaos escalates.

  • 15-year-old amongst those arrested in Stoke-on-Trent

    Staffordshire Police said 10 people, all male and aged between 52 and 15, had been arrested on suspicion of offences including assault, violent disorder and racial or religious threatening behaviour.

    The force said two men at the centre of online claims that they had been stabbed had actually been hurt when a blunt instrument was thrown in the air.

    They are in hospital and police said their injuries were not serious.

    Three cops suffered minor injuries during chaotic scenes today, said the force.

  • Police officer’s jaw broken in Liverpool

    Two police officers have been taken to hospital in Liverpool with a suspected broken jaw and a suspected broken nose.

    Six people, aged between 29 and 58, have been arrested on suspicion of offences including violent disorder and criminal damage.

    Police in the city were met with “shameful levels of violence”, said Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims.

    A number of people set off fire extinguishers and threw “various items including bricks and bottles at officers”, Merseyside Police said.

    Other footage appears to show looters stealing trainers and Crocs after the Shoezone was set on fire.

  • Police charge protesters with horses in Bristol

    One video shows protesters engaging in skirmishes with police before mounted cops swooped in to drive them back.

    Police horses have also been charging to break up the violence in other areas as right-wing protesters and counter protesters brawl.

    Missiles are being thrown and police are detaining people, according to witnesses in Bristol.

  • Protesters arrested in Nottingham

    A number of protesters were pictured being detained in Nottingham.

    Chanting has been heard for hours as rival groups continue to protest in the ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration.

    Police officers earlier formed a barricade line between the two sides.

    Bottles have been thrown amid frantic scenes in Old Market Square and the Brian Clough Statue.

    Nottinghamshire police said earlier it was aware of “two protests that may be taking place in Nottingham city centre this Saturday”, and that there would be a “robust police response” to any disorder.

    Shocking footage shows the Shoezone in Hull engulfed in flames after being set on fire.

    Thick black smoke was seen billowing into the sky as stunned bystanders watched on.

    A number of shoes, chairs and other items can be seen strewn across the floor.

  • Multiple arrests in Stoke-on-Trent

    Four men have been arrested in Stoke-on-Trent after disorder there.

    But police said claims on social media there had been a stabbing were false.

    However, cops said one man was injured after being “hit by a blunt object that was thrown”.

    A pub in the Hanley area of has also closed for the rest of the day because of “the terrible events”.

    Shocking footage shows a massive brawl in Manchester after a man launched a flare into crowds of protesters.

    A number of protesters confronted the man after he hurled the flare back into large crowds as smoke billowed into the sky.

    But it soon descended into a massive brawl as numerous cops charged in to break up the violence.

    Earlier, Greater Manchester Police issued a dispersal notice giving them greater stop and search powers.

  • Home Secretary warns rioters

    Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has warned people taking part in disorder across England that those breaking the law “will pay the price”.

    She told them: “Thuggery has no place on the streets.”

    Yvette Cooper, the home secretary, said she would work with forces to help ensure “consequences, arrests and prosecutions” for those responsible.

    She also said she’d been speaking to “MPs across the country” to ensure “they and their constituencies are able to hear from local police and to work with local communities”.

  • Starmer backs police

    Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said the police have his “full support” to take action against “extremists”.

    It comes as the PM held emergency talks with ministers over the unrest in parts of England.

    He blasted those attempting to “sow hate” by intimidating communities across the country.

    A Downing Street spokesperson said: “The prime minister began by thanking the police who responded to the violence committed by a small minority of thugs in Sunderland last night which injured four officers.

    “Addressing the scenes of disorder we have seen today, the prime minister set out that the police have our full support to take action against extremists on our streets who are attacking police officers, disrupting local businesses and attempting to sow hate by intimidating communities.

    “The prime minister ended by saying the right to freedom of expression and the violent disorder we have seen are two very different things. 

    “He said there is no excuse for violence of any kind and reiterated that the government backs the police to take all necessary action to keep our streets safe.”

  • Officers injured during Liverpool disorder

    A number of police officers have been injured as they deal with “serious disorder” in Liverpool city centre, reports Merseyside Police.

    Smoke canisters, bottles and paint tins were among the projectiles thrown by rioters, many of them masked.

    Section 34 and Section 60 orders are both in place in Liverpool.

    Section 60 gives police “enhanced powers to stop and search individuals and is designed to prevent serious violence”.

    Section 34 gives officers the power to “seize any item used in the commission of anti-social behaviour”.

  • Three cops injured in Hull

    Three police officers have been injured in Hull city centre and four people arrested, Humberside Police has said.

    At “this stage, three officers are believed to have suffered injuries” after a group of people targeted a hotel which houses asylum seekers, the force added.

    Chief Superintendent Darren Wildbore said there was a “high policing presence” in the area of Ferensway

  • Ministers to meet

    Ministers are expected to hold a meeting today to discuss the chaos erupting at demonstrations across the UK.

    Arrests have already been made in Belfast and two in Manchester, with riot police throwing tear gas into seas of opposing protestors.

    On Thursday PM Sir Keir Starmer, spoke following the violent scenes in Southport.

    He said: “Let’s be very clear about this.

    “It’s not protest. It’s not legitimate. It’s crime and violent disorder. An assault on the rule of law and the execution of justice.”

    Opposing protesters gathered at the Guildhall in Portsmouth city centre today.

    Hundreds of anti-immigration protesters waving English and Union flags clashed with Stand Up to Racism demonstrators.

  • Cops restrain a man amid Liverpool protests

    A demonstrator wearing a Union Jack flag was pinned to the ground as crowds continue to gather.

    Four officers were seen holding the man down and leading him away with his head down.

    The Strand has been closed and police have blocked the main road.

    Section 34 and Section 60 orders are both in place as officers say they are dealing with “serious disorder” and “despicable behaviour”.

    A chair thrown by some demonstrators that hit a police officer on the head, as reported by PA.

    A police van has also been smashed up by bricks and other objects being thrown by protestors, including children.

    One man collapsed after being punched as a scooter was also lobbed at the crowd by a demonstrator.

    A Sainsbury’s shop has been trashed as far right protesters and counter demonstrators and police are seen clashing.

    It comes as police have made two arrests in Manchester so far, one of which was for drunk and disorderly behaviour.

    The Sun reporter Richard Moriarty has witnessed riot police supported by eight mounted police officers push around 70 far right sympathisers from Piccadilly Gardens to St Peter’s Square today.

    The force formed a loose cordon outside Manchester art gallery. 

    Among the protesters was a woman with a baby in a pram holding a Union Jack flag.

    In Stoke-on-Trent, about 400 people have joined the city centre protests.

    Cops are standing between the rival groups with police dogs being brought in.

    The force urged local people to stay indoors, and not to go out alone should they need to.

  • Protests continue in Blackpool

    A sea of cops is separating opposing groups as locals continue to gather outside Blackpool Town Hall this afternoon.

    People have been spotted with England flags wrapped around themselves as they chant towards officers.

    There is no dispersal order in place at this time.

  • Police in riot gear at Liverpool demonstrations

    Objects have been thrown during chaotic scenes in Liverpool today.

    Cops are working to move the protest away as people wave banners which read “Not far-right just a father” and “Two Tier Keir”.

    Around 1,000 demonstrators have gathered in the city.

    A demonstration called Save Our Kids was planned near the Liver Building at 2pm.

    Meanwhile counter protests, including one called ‘Don’t Let The Racists Divide Us’ were held at St George’s Plateau.
