Rita Ora Pairs Custom Chrome Spine with Fast Fashion Dress in History-Making Move at 2023 Fashion Awards

Rita Ora turned it up a notch at the 2023 Fashion Awards at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Monday.

The singer took to the carpet in a sleek black dress with a low back, revealing her latest prosthetic endeavor – a chrome back covering.

For glam, Ora kept it relatively simple, sporting neutral makeup and a messy updo. Chrome nails, silver earrings and metallic bracelets completed her look.

In a video on Instagram, Ora offered a glimpse into the process of preparing for the event organized by the British Fashion Council and presented by Pandora.

“Last year, I don’t know if you remember, we made a little noise, because we made a prosthesis, a really cool thing on my face,” Ora said in the video. “But this time we’re going bigger: a silver chrome back. It will take about two, three hours to get dressed.”

Last year, Ora’s facial prosthesis at the awards ceremony turned the star into a beauty with gills. The scaly braces around her eyes erased her mermaid-looking brows. She paired the bold glam look with a see-through dress over a red bra and underwear.

“Mostly, we kept the dress very simple because the spine is such a big part of the look,” she continued in the video.

The black dress marks the first Primark dress to walk the British Fashion Awards red carpet. Ora, who has a collection with Primark, teamed up with the brand to sell 500 replica dresses. Proceeds from the sale of the dress will be donated to Breast Cancer Now.

Ora attended the awards ceremony with her husband Taika Waititi. The couple celebrated their first anniversary in August. Ora told PEOPLE that she wrote the romantic title track for her album You and me the following day.

Later that month, Ora shared a sweet birthday tribute to the director on Instagram.

“Happy birthday to the funniest and smartest man I’ve ever met in my life,” she captioned the post. “You keep me together in times I don’t think I can. Thank you for showing me what love really is. Here’s to many more moments where I steal your jokes and tell them 10 times louder so people think I’m funny. I LOVE YOU 🥹🥰”
