Facts/Trivia

  • Before entering the television industry, Riya was a theatre artist. She worked with the ‘Nadira Babbber Theatre Company’ for four years. Her experience in theatre helped her to play the role of ‘Gandharva’ in the TV series ‘Mahabharata’ (2013). Riya had to wear an eye patch to play the role of ‘Gandharva’, which restricted her expressions. In an interview, she said,

My family and friends all think my eyes are the most beautiful part of my face, so covering them is a real challenge for me. I have to control every expression through body language, mainly with my hands. But since I have a background in theatre and have been working with Nadira Babbber’s team for almost 4 years, I can pull this off.

  • Riya Deepsi was just 17 years old when she made her debut in the TV series Mahabharata (2013). As Gandhari, she had to play the mother of a hundred sons. Although she was not old enough to play the role of Gandhari, she not only managed to perform successfully but also received great appreciation from the audience of the show. In an interview, she said:

I was like, I was only 17 years old, and the actor who played my son was 10 or 12 years older than me.”

  • Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal are Riya’s favourite Bollywood actors.
