Vassos will face a tough “life-changing decision” between finalists Chock and Guy na The Golden Bachelor finals. The preview shows her waking up to realize she’s fallen in love with one of them, which was especially significant considering her struggle throughout the season to overcome her grief for her late husband John.
“I really struggled with it in the middle of the season,” she recently told PEOPLE. “Bachelor it gives you access to psychiatrists who are actually in the mansion with you on the show, so that’s what I did. I actually had an appointment with them and we talked about what that would be, why it was so hard for me to continue this journey and that I felt like I was still in love with John and I would never be in love with him. And they say, ‘Well, that’s fine.'”

“They said, ‘Think of it as having a balloon in each hand. One is John, and one is this other person that you have feelings for, and you don’t have to let go of this one to have this one,’ she continued. “There is room in your heart and memory for more than one person.” And I just needed to hear that it was okay. I didn’t have to stop loving John, and I didn’t know it.”
Joan Vassos feels she ‘wasn’t loved’ after man dumped her for lack of ‘spark’ and tells her ‘I’m not in love’
Vassos told PEOPLE that the mental health resources and fast-paced nature of the show forced her to face her fears and move forward without fear of opening her heart to another man.
“I evolved a lot during the season,” she explained. “I came there thinking I was so ready to find love, and then I realized it was a much different path than I thought it would be. But I feel like I’ve grown up and I don’t think I would ever be where I am today if I hadn’t done this, because it kind of gave me the motivation to go through some of these emotions quickly because I wanted to end up with someone.”
By the end of the season, she said she felt like she landed “exactly where I was supposed to be.”
