Robert De Niro Tears Up as He Talks About Being a Dad to Baby Girl Gia, 9 Months: ‘It’s Wondrous’

Despite having seven children, new fatherhood is still a life-changing experience for Robert De Niro.

It graces the cover AARP MagazineFebruary/March 2024 issue, the Killers of the Flower Moon actor opened up about becoming a dad again to now 9-month-old daughter Gia, his first child with girlfriend Tiffany Chen.

“It feels great,” said De Niro, 80, who was recently named a best supporting actor nominee at the upcoming Academy Awards for his role in the Martin Scorsese western.

The Hollywood legend continued about her youngest child, breaking down in tears: “Everything I’m obsessed with or worried about just disappears when I look at her. It’s amazing.”

“When he gets older – who knows? But that very lovely way he looks at you, takes you in, thinks and looks and observes…” De Niro added, teary-eyed.

Robert De Niro’s Seven Children: Everything You Need to Know

De Niro and Chen welcomed Gia on April 6, 2023. However, he did not reveal the news of his baby girl’s birth until more than a month later during an interview with ET Canada.

When asked about six children, the two-time Oscar winner corrected the interviewer and said: “Actually seven.”

“I just had a baby,” he said, though he didn’t give any additional details about the little one at the time.

On the red carpet at the premiere of his film in New York About My FatherDe Niro spoke with Extra about welcoming a second child at the age of 79.

“I’m fine with it. I’m fine with it,” he said, adding that raising children “never gets easier” no matter how old you are.

De Niro has been a regular at this year’s awards season so far and has been nominated along with him Killers actress Lily Gladstone at the upcoming Oscars. Gladstone, 37, is in the running for best actress, along with Annette Bening (Nyad), Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Carey Mulligan (Maestro) and Emma Stone (Poor people).

Meanwhile, De Niro faces Sterling K. Brown (American fiction), Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer), Ryan Gosling (Barbie), Mark Ruffalo (Poor people) for the best supporting actor.

With the award for best film, Killers also earned Scorsese, 81, his 10th best director nomination. She will compete with Justine Triet (Anatomy of a Fall), Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer), Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor people) and Jonathan Glazer (Zone of interest).

He asked AARP Magazine on how he thinks he’s changed and grown during his prolific career, De Niro said, “I’ve learned not to worry or tax myself too much.”

“I like to let things happen,” he added.
