Career
When it comes to his work, Robert Smith’s career began at the age of 14 when he joined the high school band ‘The Crawley Goat Band’ which also included his brother Richard, sister Janet and a few of his friends. In 1976 he formed the band Easy Cure’ with Laurence Tolhurst, Pearl Thompson and Michael Dempsey, with Smith as one of the composers and singers. With the departure of Pearl Thompson, the band was renamed ‘The Cure’ in 1978.
Similarly, the band released the songs ‘Killing an Arab’ and ’10:15 Saturday Night’ in 1978 and 1979. In fact, their first album, ‘Three Imaginary Boys’ was also released. He also embarked on a UK tour with Steve Severino of ‘Siouxsie and the Banshees’ in 1979 to promote their second album, ‘Join Hands’. Michael Dempsey left the band in 1980, and was joined by Simon Gallup, bass guitarist, and Matthieu Hartly, keyboardist. From July 1982 to February 1985, he was responsible for the entire recording process of ‘The Cure’. Similarly, in 1984, Smith released his solo album ‘The Top’, on which he performed all instruments except drums. He also recorded new albums with The Cure during the new decade. Among them are ‘Bloodflowers’ (2000), ‘The Cure’ (2004) and ‘4:13 Dream’ (2008).
