Rumer Willis Reflects on Being a Mom, Sobriety and ‘Precious Moments’ with Family in Candid Message

Rumer Willis toasts to a year of personal growth and family bonding.

On Friday, the 35-year-old actress looked back on 2023 in a candid Instagram post, where she listed over 30 milestones she’s achieved in the past 12 months.

“Finding my way back to myself… Last year was incredibly dynamic, growing into a human being, giving birth at home (medicated) surrounded by my family,” Willis captioned a pair of sunny bathtub selfies.

She then noted that the year marked “a new pregnancy and postpartum relationship” and gave her the chance to fall in love with the “tiny love of my life Lou” — her now 8-month-old daughter Louetta Isley, who she shares with partner Derek Richard Thomas.

“[I] softened, became less resistant to own bulls—, threw pots on the wheel, made 6 [a.m.] swims in the ocean 4x a week in the winter, learned what real intimacy looks like, worked on being the most honest, authentic version of myself, treated my trauma so I wouldn’t pass it on to my daughter, celebrated 7 years of sobriety, showed myself [I’m] it’s not a sissy hehe,” Willis added of her accomplishments.

The Once upon a time … in Hollywood The actress also shared in her post that other recent milestones included cold ones, like swimming in an “ice-cold river,” and big personal accomplishments like feeling “more beautiful and comfortable in my own skin than ever.”

Willis wrote that she also made sure to spend quality time with her family throughout the year, after her father Bruce Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in February.

Highlighting “precious, love-filled moments” with them, Willis said, “[I] wrote lullabies with my daughter’s dad, shared moments of wonder at the tiny being who chose us, spent precious moments full of love with my dad, learned from my mom, celebrated my first Mother’s Day and found strength in myself that I didn’t know existed and watched how my daughter is growing before my eyes,”

“I don’t know what this next year will bring, but man, I can’t wait to see what’s next,” she concluded the heartfelt post.

The new mom previously toasted the new year with photos on Instagram she shared earlier this week, featuring her daughter and Thomas on a short break in the sun and snow.

“So thankful for my little family ✨,” Willis captioned a series of photos of her loved ones outdoors and snuggled up inside.

She previously spoke with PEOPLE in November about her family lineage, while describing what it means to pass on the “magic” of her offspring to Louetta.

“I think some of the most magical parts of me in and of themselves are definitely from them,” Willis said of her actor father, 68, and mother Demi Moore. “I feel like that will rub off on her. I love watching them with her.”
