It was the first time ever that Kiev had managed to fire ballistic missiles at Russian soil in the conflict – as the world today marks 1,000 days of Putin’s bloody and illegal war.
On Tuesday morning, reports emerged of a missile attack – and a Ukrainian defense source told RBC that ATACMS missiles were indeed used.
Russia’s Defense Ministry later confirmed the hit – saying US-supplied missiles were used to target the munitions arsenal at Bryasenko.
Fragments of one of the damaged rockets fell on the “technical territory” of the military facility and caused a fire, which Russia was reluctant to admit.
Vrh claimed to have successfully shot down five and damaged another.
News of the attack came just hours after Vladimir Putin gave the go-ahead for a new nuclear doctrine in retaliation for Ukraine’s new missile licenses.
She equated Ukraine’s use of Western weapons with an act of aggression by those allied countries that supplied them with weapons.
The Kremlin said it marked the crossing of a red line – officially putting nuclear retaliation on the table.

The US on Sunday approved a decision allowing Ukraine to fire some US ATACMS missiles inside Russia for the first time in nearly three years of war.
A Ukrainian defense source told RBC: “ATACMS was indeed used for the first time to attack the territory of the Russian Federation.
“The strike was carried out on a facility in the Bryansk region, it was successfully destroyed.”
Karachev is some 130 km from the Ukrainian border.
The Ukrainian newspaper Censor said 12 explosions took place during the night strike.
Ukraine later confirmed that the warehouse they hit was storing North Korean munitions and anti-aircraft missiles, via official Andriy Kovalenko on Telegram.
It follows reports that Putin’s ally and fellow despot Kim Jong-Un is ready to send 100,000 troops to help him in his brutal war.

Mad Vlad was left furious when US President Joe Biden finally authorized the use of long-range missiles by Ukraine on Sunday.
His stooge Peskov vowed this morning that the use of Western non-nuclear missiles by the Ukrainian military could trigger a nuclear response.
Russia has issued countless similar threats in the past – citing fears of a possible nuclear escalation in the West.
Peskov said the new policy “refers to the fact that the Russian Federation reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in the event of aggression with the use of conventional weapons against it.”
When asked if the new policy means that Russia sees the launch of a long-range missile as an attack by a non-nuclear state (Ukraine) backed by a nuclear state (the US) – and provokes the possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons in response – Peskov said: “Yes, that’s what it’s about. discuss”.
Former Russian president and Putin’s right-hand man, Dmitry Medvedev, speaking about the updated nuclear policy, said: “The use of the Alliance’s missiles in this way can now be qualified as an attack on Russia by the countries of the bloc.

The move to ease missile permits follows “one of the largest” airstrikes of the Ukrainian war so far with 120 missiles and 90 drones launched by Russia.
It brings Britain’s Storm Shadow and France’s SCALP missiles into play – increasing pressure on Ukraine’s other Western allies to follow the US lead.
Andrey Gurulev, a Russian army reserve general, MP and pro-Putin TV propagandist, has warned of a full-scale nuclear attack on Britain.
“There are individual targets that can be hit … with demonstrative warning strikes,” he said.
“The first candidate to get the nuclear bat… is the UK.”
He also stated “if anyone has the desire to launch ATACMS, SCALP, Storm Shadow missiles….essentially there will be nothing left of America trying to drag us into escalation.”
As the world marks the 1:00 a.m. day of the war in Ukraine on Tuesday, Putin’s stooge Vasily Nebenzya told the Security Council that the use of Western missiles in Russia amounts to “suicide attacks.”
He called on Britain and France to reconsider.
“Maybe I’m Joe Biden, for a lot of reasons, there’s nothing to lose,” he said.

Today marks 1,000 days of Vlad’s grueling war in Ukraine, in which more than a million soldiers and civilians have been killed or wounded.

A former British army officer said Washington’s decision to allow Ukraine to use ATACMS – and the possibility of Britain’s Storm Shadow missiles joining the war effort – was a “significant development”.
He explained: “Since day one, Putin and his close associates have threatened a nuclear attack if we escalate it, and today is the 1,000th day of this conflict, and that has not happened.
“This should encourage our leaders, who must now realize that Putin’s threats are completely hollow.
“With the Russian boxer on the ropes, now is the time to allow the Ukrainians to absolutely deliver the killing blow and be in a really good position for the expected ceasefire.”
He added: “The fact that the Russians have been so vehement in their verbal attacks against the use of NATO missiles shows that this is a significant step.
“This could allow Ukraine to gain a good position [the next] six weeks which will be important for Zelensky if Trump forces a ceasefire after he returns to office.”
