Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera and Kate McKinnon Reprise Barbie Roles in New Oscars 2024 Promo — Watch

Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera and Kate McKinnon are back in Barbie Land!

The actors reprized theirs Barbie stars in a hilarious new promo for the 2024 Oscars, which aired Monday night during Jimmy Kimmel Live! — a fitting debut, given that Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the Oscars for the fourth time.

The promo opens with the voice of Helen Mirren, who previously spoke in the nominated film directed by Greta Gerwig, as Kimmel, 56, tries to figure out the road map to the Oscars.

“Since the beginning of time, people have been getting lost. This is the story of one such stupid-stupid,” says Mirren, 78, before Kimmel arrives at the eccentric home of quirky Barbie (McKinnon, 40).

Kimmel is soon greeted by a strange Barbie — seen doing skits, of course — who calls him “mid-life crisis Ken,” “Ken lost everything in the divorce,” and “He probably should have gone up in that tuxedo Ken,” before she informed about his dilemma.

“I’m the host of the Academy Awards and I’m lost, and I really need to get back to Hollywood,” says Weird Barbie, who replies, “Have you felt GPS threatens your manhood?”

“I got just the thing for you, Kimmy Jimmel,” she continues. “Let’s go.”

After reviewing a map of Oscar country with the host, the two hop into the Weird Wagon and drive past scenes from several nominated films, including Killers of the flower moon, Maestro, Oppenheimer and Poor people.

“Hey, look, that’s an even weirder Barbie,” McKinnon’s character says, pointing to Bella Baxter, Emma Stone’s undead character who pushes boundaries in Poor people. “Hey Bella! She’s my cousin.”

Kimmel and Weird Barbie eventually arrive at the venue, where Gloria (Ferrera, 39) appears in a hot pink jacket and brings a version of her famous Barbie monologue as he breaks down the difficulties of hosting the Oscars.

“I think what you’re saying is that hosting the Oscars is even harder than being a woman!” Kimmel replies, before Gloria tells him, “No … no, that’s … that’s not all I was saying.”

Ken (Gosling, 43) — wearing sunglasses and his tie-dye “I Am Kenough” sweatshirt, of course — then appears in the back seat of the Weird Wagon clutching a bag of fast food and declares to the group, “I’ve got a- N- out.”

“It’s kind of this cool trend on social media where you get it before the Oscars,” he adds before taking a sip of his drink.

“Oh hey, Ryan. Um, actually, I think the trend is to have an In-N-Out after Oscars — actually, after you are won Oscar,” says Kimmel.

Oscars expert says Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig Barbie Snubs ‘will be remembered for a long time’ (exclusive)

“Oh, well that’s not going to happen,” Gosling replies, throwing his In-N-Out order out of the vehicle. “It’s good that Greta has [Best] Director in the bag.”

“Oh, uh, Ryan?” says Ferrera, before leaning in to whisper something in his ear — no doubt the news that Gerwig, 40, wasn’t nominated in the directing category, despite being the No. 1 film of the year at the box office — and everyone screams.

As Kimmel and Gosling continue to shout, Mirren’s voiceover declares, “Girls grow up to be women, but not all boys grow up to be men. Some remain hopelessly stuck in a loop of infantile stupidity.”

Barbie is up for eight awards at this year’s Academy Awards, including best adapted screenplay for Gerwig and her husband and co-writer Noah Baumbach, as well as best actor for Gosling and best supporting actress for Ferrera.

And while star Margot Robbie is absent from the Best Actress category, she is eligible for the Best Picture Oscar as a co-producer of the film.

The 96th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 10, at the Dolby Theater at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, and will air live on ABC at 7:00 PM ET.
