Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman Have 'Real' Bromance, Says 'Deadpool 3' Director: They 'Love Each Other'

“The guys love each other almost as much as Ryan Reynolds and I,” director Shawn Levy joked

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds’ bromance isn’t just for the cameras.

In an interview for Los Angeles Times at the Toronto International Film Festival, Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy said the close dynamic between the pair is “real”.

“It’s freaking real,” said Levy, 55, joking, “Boys love each other almost as much as Ryan Reynolds and I love each other. Because that bromance is a story for all time.”

Levy previously worked with Reynolds, 46, on Free Guy (2021) and Project Adam (2022). The actor announced in the middle Free Guysuccessful opening weekend that it will get a sequel.

Meanwhile, Reynolds and Jackman, 54, are set to reprise their Marvel characters Deadpool and Wolverine in the upcoming film Deadpool 3.

The production of the film started in May in London, as The Hollywood Reporter reported at the time.

It’s expected to mark the title character’s full introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as the first time Reynolds and Jackman have worked together in a Marvel film since Reynolds appeared as a different version of Deadpool in 2009. X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Reynolds and Jackman first announced that Wolverine would appear in the next one Dead pool movie back in September 2022, in a video shared on social networks.

The pair also insisted that Wolverine’s next on-screen appearance would not compromise the character’s character in past films, which ended with Logan’s death in the Oscar-nominated film Logan.

“Logan takes place in 2029, a completely separate thing,” Reynolds said in video about the movie shared that same month. “Logan died in Logan. Not touching it.”

Reynolds and Jackman spoke to PEOPLE about how much they appreciate each other, and Reynolds said in November that his friend helped him prepare for the songs and dances in his holiday comedy Spiritualized.

“He gave me really good advice,” Reynolds said of Jackman, who has starred in musicals both on stage and on the big screen. “He said to make sure you’re enjoying it because if you’re enjoying it, we’re going to be enjoying it. And I thought that was actually quite wise. It was very wise.”

Last month, Jackman told PEOPLE he was working with Reynolds Deadpool 3“I think I’m on set with [Ryan] every day and [our characters] on film in every city together every day… I think it’s fair to say they’re going to be hitting on each other all the time.”

“All kidding aside, I’ll probably have more fun in this movie than any other,” he added.

Deadpool 3 is currently slated to hit theaters on May 3rd.
