Vidhu Vinod Chopra dedicated the film to his mother. Vidu said in an interview,
Shikara is a tribute to my mother. In 1989, she came to Mumbai to attend the premiere of Parinda, but was unable to return to Kashmir. Shikara is about her home, my home, and how we lost that home. So it’s a deeply personal story. But through everything my mother went through, she just loved the people, the valley, and our home, and that love literally overrode every other emotion she might have felt—whether it was disappointment, anger, or loss. That’s why I made this film.
The first song of the movie was released on January 20, 2020. This is a romantic song featuring Adil and Sadiya. The song is sung by Shradha Mishra and Papon.
