Salma Agha is a Pakistani singer and actress who worked mainly in the Indian and Pakistani film industry in the 1980s and 1990s. She came to limelight for her role as ‘Nilofar’ in the Indian Hindi film Nikaah (1982). Salma also lent her voice to songs in the film and won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Vocalist.

Salma Agha was born on Thursday, October 25, 1956, in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan (64 years old as of 2020). Her zodiac sign is Scorpio. At the age of 9, she moved to London with her family. In London, Salma and her sister Sabina produced and sang songs for a record called AGHA-, in which Salma and Sabina sang ABBA hits in Hindi. The record received a favorable response from listeners and critics. However, it didn’t create much of a stir in the Hindi film industry. Once, Raj Kapoor (film director) invited his cousin Zarina Agha (Salma’s mother) to the wedding reception of his son Rishi Kapoor (actor) in London. The reception was attended by many famous Hindi film directors, including BR Chopra, who was looking for a Muslim actress for one of his films. After learning that Chopra was looking for a Muslim girl for his film, Salma flew to Bombay, India (now Mumbai) and met him through his uncle Raj Kapoor. Soon, she auditioned for the film and was hired. When the music director heard Salma’s ABBA hit, they signed her to sing a few songs in the movie.

My father (Liaqat Gul Tajik) was in the gem and antique trade in Iran. There he was awarded the title of ‘Aagha’, a knighthood given to businessmen of high repute. “

Salma Agha is the daughter of Liaqat Gul Agha and Nasreen Agha (born Zarina Ghaznavi) )’s daughter. Her father was a businessman who used to deal in carpets, and her mother was an actress. She has a younger sister named Sabina Agha (singer).

In the 1980s, Salma Agha dated London businessman Ayaz Sipra. The relationship lasted for many years and then the two broke up. In addition to this relationship, she was married three times. Her first husband was Javed Sheikh, whom she married when she was 16 years old. Their marriage didn’t last long.
Salma later married famous squash player Rahmat Khan in 1989. The couple has two children, a daughter Sasha Agha and a son Liaquat Ali Khan. The couple divorced in 2010.

After the birth of Nasreen/Zalina (Salma’s mother), they divorced. After the divorce, Anvari married Jugal Kishore Mehra, a wealthy Hindu businessman. In order to marry Anwari, Jujjar Kishore gave up his family and religion, became a Muslim, and changed his name to Ahmed Salman. He accepted Anvari’s daughter and became the stepfather of Nasreen (Salma’s mother). Jujjar is the cousin of Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Sashi Kapoor. Raj Kapoor’s mother Ramsani Kapoor is Jujjar’s father’s sister.

Salma Agha started her acting career in 1982 playing the role of “Nilofer” in the Indian Hindi film “Nikaah”. Her performance in the film was loved by the audience and she was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
She next gained popularity in the film Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki (1984) opposite Mithun Chakraborty.
