Sam and Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Kids: Everything They've Said About Parenting

Sam and Aaron Taylor-Johnson have their hands full with their four daughters.

Two years after the couple met while working on Sam’s directorial debut Nowhere boy they welcomed their first daughter together, Wylda Rae, in 2010. Romy Hero joined the family in 2012, and Sam and Aaron married later that year. Aaron is also stepfather to Sam’s older daughters, Angelica and Jessie Phoenix, whom she shares with ex-husband Jay Jopling.

Sam and Aaron had a whirlwind romance, they met in 2008 and got engaged exactly one year later. On July 8, 2010, they welcomed their first child, daughter Wylda Rae. After confirming they were expecting their second child in 2011, their daughter Romy Hero was born on January 18, 2012.

Before they were born, Aaron said he was already well-prepared for the step into fatherhood by taking an active role in the lives of Samova’s older daughters.

Aaron said he always knew he would be a young father

Sam and Aaron said they prefer to be a private couple and are particularly protective of their children’s position out of the spotlight. They rarely talk about them during interviews and do not share their photos on the Internet.

Family is Aaron’s top priority

Despite his successful acting career, Aaron said he is always more focused on his family. In his interview from 2023 EsquireAaron explained that when his children were younger, he only made one film a year in order to spend more time at home with his daughters.

Since both Sam and Aaron work in the entertainment industry, the couple devised a system of excluding who stays at home with the kids so they could film each of their projects.

“We have a nanny, but we don’t have an army. The nice thing is that I will take over and Sam will step back and vice versa, so you know that parent is always around,” Aaron said. The Independent in 2013.

“My daughter is 6 years old and she is smart. She says, ‘Dad, you’re going to build me a treehouse,'” Aaron explained. “It’s already pretty much finished and looks more like a guest house, it’s massive.”

Their daughters love to spend time outdoors

In a March 2022 interview with Andrew Garfield for HERO magazine, Aaron spoke about his family’s experience during the COVID-19 pandemic and praised his daughters for their “resilience” in adjusting to distance learning.

He went on to explain that at the beginning of the lockdown, he and Sam took their kids away from Los Angeles — where they were currently living at the time.

“[We] decided to leave the city, go a little in nature. I could see that distance learning was just a lot, and obviously there was a lot of novelty and I think [looking out for] mental health was a big part of survival,” he said.

Aaron added: “We’ve been here [in California] eight years and didn’t get a surfboard and jump in the ocean.” But the pandemic changed that for his family and his daughters took up surfing. “My girls took to it really quickly, they’re great surfers,” Aaron said.
