Fowler and Hunt married in 2017 and have been through many ups and downs together. In February 2022, Fowler filed for divorce from the “Hard to Forget” singer. 2008: Sam Hunt and Hannah Lee Fowler start dating for the first time

The couple reportedly met sometime in 2008 and dated on and off for several years. Hunt even named his debut album Montevallo after his hometown in Alabama. Hunt previously played football for the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 2005-07, which is likely how their paths crossed.

“I didn’t actually live in that town,” he told E! News about the meaning of his 2014 album title “I’ve never been to Montevallo, but right before I went to Nashville I met a girl from there. A lot of the experiences I had with her and the relationship I had with her inspired a lot of the songs on the album.”

The couple split after a while, but got back together in 2016. “I think I went out last summer [to Hawaii] about seven times in about three months,” Hunt told Entertainment Tonight in 2017. “I’m trying to talk to her about coming back. And on the seventh trip I convinced her.”

While talking to Board about the songs on his 2014 debut album MontevalloHunt admitted that Fowler, who Board described as “a dark-haired beauty who rides horses and studied nursing”, she influenced the songs on the album.

Hunt said Board, “I spent a lot of time talking to her about the songs and asking her, ‘What do you think about this?’ Her perspective was a powerful part of me connecting with a female audience, not just a male one.”

June 8, 2016: Sam Hunt says he’s “free”

While on the CMT Music Awards red carpet, CMT asked Hunt if he was “single,” referring to his recently released single, “Single for the Summer.”

Hunt replied, “I did [single]. It’s the beginning of summer. . . It’s me.”

However, Hunt added that “I’m not in the same place I was when I wrote this song a few years ago” and that he “hopes there’s a possibility” he’ll be with someone by the fall.

In January 2017, a rep for Hunt confirmed to PEOPLE that the couple was engaged. Although they remained tight-lipped about the details at the time, Hunt later opened up about the proposal during an appearance on The Bobby Bones Showrevealing that he had asked the question during a trip to Israel.

“[We] got engaged on the Sea of ​​Galilee,” he revealed. Although Hunt had big plans for the proposal, his plans almost fell through when the couple got into a bit of a fight beforehand.

February 18, 2022: Hannah Lee Fowler files for divorce from Sam Hunt

In February 2022, Fowler filed for divorce from Hunt, citing infidelity, according to TMZ. Although the couple had not previously announced that they were pregnant, the documents also reveal that Fowler is pregnant and due to give birth in May. Fowler is reportedly seeking alimony, child support and primary custody, as well as for each party to be “awarded their separate assets.”

Just hours after filing for divorce in Tennessee on Feb. 18, Fowler withdrew her divorce from the country singer — only to file it in a different district the same day, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.

According to TMZ, Fowler initially filed divorce papers in the wrong county, then retracted them and later re-filed them.

March 24, 2022: Sam Hunt reveals the gender of his baby with Hannah Lee Fowler

While hosting “Country Countdown USA” on March 24, the father-to-be opened up about his new baby, revealing that he’s having a girl. “I’ve got a little girl on the way,” he said. “I’m having a baby in about 8 weeks. I blocked for two months at the end of May and the beginning of June. Really this year is all about that big news in my life.”

A month after Fowler asked a Tennessee court to dismiss her divorce petition, Fowler and Hunt welcomed a baby girl, Lucy Lu, sometime in May.

Hunt shared the news publicly on June 7 while performing at the Stars for Second Harvest benefit concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, when he told the crowd, “I recently had a baby girl named Lucy Lu.”

Of the joy Lucy Lu brought into his life, Hunt added, “I think being here, in the music business and on the road, has kind of hardened my heart. My heart is definitely a lot harder in a lot of ways since I left that small town. It’s amazing how that little girl melted it all away overnight a few weeks ago.”

9 September 2022: Sam Hunt says becoming a dad has given him a ‘sense of purpose’

During an appearance on Audacy’s Katie & Company podcast, the country singer opened up about becoming a dad and called fatherhood “a life-changing deal, a deal that’s worthless.”

“[Fatherhood] it gave me such a sense of purpose – at home and out on the road. A new appreciation of life in general. I think I progressed overnight, evolved 10 or 20 years overnight,” the country singer said.

He continued: “I’m just staring at her, watching her grow little by little because when I go away I realize how much she’s growing… And I miss a little bit of it, but when I’m at home I make sure I don’t miss any of it. So I’m really enjoyed being around her and her mom, and just experiencing the whole wonder of being a new dad.”

Hunt also said he is looking forward to having more children with Fowler. “I waited until I had my first one, but I’m trying to have as many as I can before I get old, before we get old,” he added.
