Samantha Bee Recalls Sean 'Diddy' Combs 'Instantly' Sanitizing His Hands After Their Handshake: 'So Rude'

Comedian Samantha Bee reflects on a past encounter with Sean “Diddy” Combs, who she says was “so rude” after his arrest.

In the episode The Daily Beast Podcast with Bee and magazine editor Joanna Coles airing Thursday, September 26, Bee, 54, recalled meeting the music mogul “years ago” at the Democratic National Convention — and how he “immediately” sanitized her hands after she reached for shake.

The political commentator said she was standing in an enclosure with cameras and a producer, tagging people for an interview when Combs, 54, entered the room with a man she believed to be Fonzworth Bentley, his former assistant.

“I went up to them, and it was an area where you’d expect an interview, so it wasn’t unheard of for me to walk up with a camera and a very polite question,” she recalled. “I went up to him and said, ‘Would you mind if I ask you a few questions?’ He seemed very taken aback, his voice was soft. He said, ‘I think that’s okay.'”

Bee thanked the star for his time and reached out to shake his hand — but after doing so, Combs quickly sanitized himself.

“I shook hands with him, and then he immediately, like, instantly, turned to his companion, stretched out his hands helplessly, and the latter sprayed copious amounts of Purell into his hands,” she said. “Then he gently rubbed his hands to kill all the germs I put on his hands, and it was so rude. It was actually so rude.”

She continued: “I understand that, you know, you shake a lot of people’s hands and your hands feel dirty, but usually you don’t need to sanitize them while the person is standing in front of you expressing your disgust. And it occurred to me in light of all this craziness that it’s always the germaphobes who want to go home and recreate [Roman emperor] Caligula every Tuesday afternoon.”

On September 17, Combs was charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation for prostitution. His indictment centers on “antics,” which prosecutors described as elaborate sexual performances he staged. The women were allegedly coerced or forced to participate with male sex workers, sometimes for days at a time, according to the indictment.

Drugs and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant were among the “wacky” stash found in his homes during raids in March.

Combs, who has pleaded not guilty, is currently in federal custody awaiting trial, and his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, recently said the star wants to testify.

“I don’t know if I could keep him out of the stands,” Agnifilo told TMZ. “I think he’s very anxious to tell his story.”

Combs is next due in court in early October. He is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Sources tell PEOPLE that he is currently housed in the same part of the facility as disgraced FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried.
