- Sanjay Singh was born into a farmer family. He and his family hold an annual mud wrestling (mitti ki kushti) tournament in the town during Shivaratri.
- Sanjay is very close to Bharatiya Janata Party MP Brij Bhushan Singh Sharan. Prior to Sanjay Singh, Brij Bhushan Singh served as President of WFI. Bhushan was accused of sexually harassing female wrestlers but he denied all the accusations.
