In his fourth year of engineering, a friend encouraged him to enter the 2014 Red Bull World Graffiti Art Championship, which he eventually won. In the final round, Santanu was assigned to create Hindu-inspired graffiti on a blank canvas at the Taj Mahal. He used his knowledge of religion to depict Lord Vishnu, the six-headed snake Adi Anantashesha (a devotee of Lord Vishnu) and a man surrounded by his personal universe and inventions; Adi Anantashesha symbolizes 0 , 1 and infinity – the three coordinates that define the plane of existence or reality. With his title as the Red Bull World Graffiti Art Champion, Santanu won a partnership with the Red Bull Consumer Products team to design a graphic for a T-shirt sold on the Red Bull online shopping platform in 2015. BLCK
In January 2022, Santanu held his first solo exhibition ‘BLCK’ at Art & Soul Gallery, Mumbai, highlighting his love for monochromatic art. The exhibition consists of various black and white artworks and visitors, including celebrities dressed in black to match the theme.
In an interview, Santanu discussed the choice of “BLCK” as the title of the exhibition, explaining that it represented his artistic journey, starting with graffiti in rich shades of black ink. Santanu said in an interview,
BLCK is an extension of my tumultuous existence and the fulfillment it brings me. I started practicing with the deep black tones of India ink, so when you doodle with black ink, the meta-landscape it allows is very graphic, without any tonal quality you’d rather rely on the ability to sketch, which absorbs light. BLCK is a reflection on my artistic practice, which absorbs popular culture into an intertwining vine of hands, skulls, human bodies, and images that reflect our thoughts, the chaos that permeates our bodies from the images we consume. Emotionally driven and shaped by violence, BLCK invited me into a world of comfortable turmoil. “
