Sara and Erin Foster Develop Their Own Signature Scents for Favorite Daughter: ‘Spritz Away!’ (Exclusive)

Sara and Erin Foster’s empire continues to expand. Next? Conquers the pure scent.

The sisters have a podcast, a deal with Netflix (their upcoming comedy series stars Kristen Bell and Adam Brody!), and a venture capital firm, Oversubscribed, focused on investing in companies founded by women. Then, of course, there’s their best-selling clothing brand Favorite Daughter, which they launched at the height of the 2020 pandemic. Thanks to its affordable price, loyal fan base and buzz on social media, Favorite Daughter, which focuses on an elevated basics and suiting capsule wardrobe, has turned a profit after two years. Now they’re bringing their Midas touch to the pure beauty space with two new fragrances inspired by their favorite vacation spots.

Sara and Erin worked closely with Casey Georgeson, pure beauty expert and founder of luxury skincare line Saint Jane, on their signature fragrances, Grecian Nights and Italian Summers. Both are made without parabens, sulfates, wedges, formaldehyde and silicones, and with sustainable, vegan, cruelty-free ingredients responsibly sourced from around the world.

“Clean is a big word, but fragrance has been known to not be clean for decades,” Sara tells PEOPLE. “I think there are a lot of people who do that but don’t necessarily live that way. Erin is really the ethics police in our partnership. We knew we wanted our fragrances to be the purest, but with real effectiveness—a lot of pure fragrances just don’t have that staying power. Ours lasts.”

Georgeson adds: “The fragrance is the perfect evolution for Favorite Daughter and we had to do it in a fresh, innovative way. Sara and Erin share my passion for meticulously clean products that truly work. That was our mission when we collaborated on these two beautiful fragrances.”

If you don’t have a spring break trip lined up, a few spritzes of Favorite Daughter’s perfume will transport you to a tropical destination. Sara says they went “back and forth” when deciding whether to create one or two fragrances, but in the end they all wanted to take ownership.

“We debated whether it would be wiser to do just one, but then we said, ‘We’ll never agree on a scent. We’re very different people, and for the sake of our sisterly relationship, let’s not fight over a scent. So let’s each do our own thing.'”

Sarah’s signature Grecian Nights fragrance focuses on white flowers including water lily, jasmine nectar and gardenia. Erin’s Italian Summers features layers of coconut, sparkling citrus, wild freesia and pleasant vanilla orchid for a breezy finish.

“It smells incredibly complex together, but we market Grecian Nights as your nighttime, sexy scent,” explains Sara. “A bit like someone might come up to you and want to sniff your neck. You don’t want them really sniffing your neck during the day. Nobody tries to sniff your neck at work, but maybe at night.”

For Erin, it’s more about adding a calming, fresh scent to your daily vibe.

“When we closed our eyes and asked, ‘Where do we wish we could be?’ I’m like, ‘I want to be in Greece dancing on a table at a delicious restaurant,’ and Erin’s like, ‘I want to be in Italy during the day walking around with no makeup on my face and my hair clean and wet from getting out of the ocean,'” Sara shares. their inspirations. “Erin describes her scent as reminiscent of cotton and chiffon.”

The fragrances are also built on staying power and Sara stated that she still likes to wear it throughout the day.

“It really lingers—if not all day, you should spray half way through the day, because there’s nothing harmful in there, so keep spraying. It doesn’t matter,” she says. “I spray it under the pit for half a day – leave some in the glove box!”

Generation Z also informed the latest clean product launch, Favorite Daughter, as a generation that speaks truth on social media and uses fragrances and body mists more than ever before. “We’re seeing the younger generation getting into these things much earlier, because of TikTok, even are also aware of it,” explains Sara. “When I was 12, I didn’t even know what a scent was. When I was 12, it wasn’t even on my radar. But now 12-year-olds wear perfume and they can’t spray perfume with harmful ingredients.” remembers Sara first got into fragrances herself in the late 90s, and Quelques Fleurs from Houbigant Paris was the de rigueur perfume in the crowd.

“These were the days of Kim Kardashian and Nicole Richie and us. It was a fragrance everyone had to have,” she says. “We would beg our parents. It was about $100, which was a lot in the ’90s.”

“If you didn’t smell Quelques Fleurs, you were out of the loop. We all had to smell Quelques Fleurs. Smelling it now would take me right back to high school.”
