All About Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins' 4 Kids

Thomas Rhett is four times better father!

The country star and his wife Lauren Akins were high school sweethearts and married in 2012. They have since become parents to four daughters: Willa Gray, 8, Ada James, 6, Lennon Love, 4, and Lillie Carolina, 2.

On The Ellen DeGeneres ShowRhett described his family as the “light” of his world and said he was happy to be the “stereotypical father”.

“I mean, my bus is just full of kids’ toys,” he joked in May 2021. “My shorts are getting shorter, I’m carrying a camera everywhere I go — a big camera — trying to capture all those moments and really just embracing the life of a dad.”

A month ago, the “Marry Me” singer opened up to PEOPLE about what he taught his daughters — and vice versa.

“I just love spending one-on-one time with each of them, which is something I didn’t think was important before,” he said. “I just thought that as long as the five of us were together, we were good. But I think the longer I’m a dad, it’s like every kid really needs that one-on-one time — the same way that Lauren and I just need time one for the other.”

Rhett also revealed that he and Akins hope to have more children.

“My wife has always wanted five children,” he said. “So I’m sure we’ll have at least that many. I’d love a son. But at the same time, I’m so used to accepting this ‘daddy’s girl’ life that I don’t really know what would suit a guy, to be honest!”

Rhett also hopes to make music that his kids will enjoy, which inspired him to make songs that “make them want to dance” on his latest album, About the woman.

“I really wanted to make sure my wife and kids felt like this was what put a smile on their face and really made them want to move,” he told PEOPLE in August 2024.

Willa Gray Akins, 8

Willa Gray was born in November 2015 in Uganda, and Rhett and Akins adopted her in May 2017. The couple had been trying unsuccessfully to conceive when Akins met Willa at a Ugandan orphanage. They began the adoption process – and got pregnant a few months later. Willa was 18 months old when the couple brought her home to Nashville, and Akins was in her third trimester with Ada James.

“When I met Willa, her story was pretty intense,” Akins told PEOPLE in 2017. “All orphans have heartbreaking stories, but it felt like this baby was ours.”

Rhett described Willa as having a naturally caring personality.

“Willa Gray is the spirit of a mother, the spirit of a caregiver,” he told PEOPLE in April 2021. “If Ada James or Lennon are crying, she’s the first one there to say, ‘Are you okay? Do you need your blanket?’ Do you want me to get you a bottle of milk?’ ”

Akins thinks her oldest will inherit her sense of adventure — especially after spending a day at the lake in June 2021. “After seeing Willa Gray on that subway, I think he’s going to take after mom and be our little daredevil,” she wrote on Instagram.

For Will’s 6th birthday, Akins wrote a sweet tribute on Instagram.

“Without a shadow of a doubt you bring the average Willa Gray to our family with just your shining light,” the proud mom wrote. “You are a JOY for your parents and you love people very much – especially your little sisters 🥰 Your kindness is one of the sweetest gifts to this world and for the last 6 years the world has been a better place with YOU!”

Willa also seems to be a big fan of her father’s music. In June 2024, Rhett said Party tonight that his new album, About the woman“slaps”.

“I was like, ‘Where did you hear that?’ I guess the slaps mean he just has a good beat, I really don’t know, but I got it,” he said.

Ada James Akins, 7

After 36 hours of labor, Ada James was born on August 12, 2017 in Nashville at 10:28 p.m.

“She weighs 7 pounds 3 ounces and is so stinkin’ cute I just can’t stand it!” Akins captioned her newborn on Instagram. “Thomas Rhett and I are very much in love with her. And Willa Gray is so excited to finally have a baby sister.”

In his April 2021 interview, the “Half of Me” singer told PEOPLE that Ada is “extremely sassy,” saying, “The first person who says, ‘Hey, honey, let’s put on pajamas,’ she gets, ‘Well, No I want right now.’ ”

The country singer added that despite their different personalities, all of his girlfriends get the same lesson in kindness. “We preach kindness like it’s our job,” he said. “That’s our standard. ‘We treat people with kindness and love’ — and that’s what we say in their prayers at night.”

Although, he said “sassy” Ada didn’t really buy into the message: “I can’t tell you how many times a day I look at Ada and say, ‘Let’s be kind!’ And she’s just like…” he said as his hand flew above his head. “But she’s 3 years old,” he added with a telling smile.

On Ada’s 4th birthday, Akins shared on Instagram that her daughter is “cheerful, CHUCKY, cuddly, stubborn, loving, unpredictable, sweet, independent, creative, hilarious, smart, fiery, SO precious.” She added: “Our world is significantly brighter with YOU and your spirit in it.”

Lennon Love Akins, 4

Rhett and Akins welcomed Lennon Love on February 10, 2020. She was born at 8:30 a.m. in Nashville and weighed 9 lbs., 2 oz.

“It was such a joy to watch this little angel come into the world,” Rhett wrote on Instagram after Lennon’s birth. “My wife is just amazing throughout the entire birth 🙌🏼 watching our kids meet Lennon for the first time was probably the cutest thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life! Ada James and Willa Gray are going to be the best big sisters on the planet.”

In April 2021, Rhett described Lennon as “just as much of a firecracker as Ada James”, even though she had only just started talking. “They’re all so different, but they’re all so loving and they all have their own unique personalities,” he said.

Akins wrote that Lennon’s “little personality was already bigger than most adults” on her first birthday. “We absolutely adore you and your sweet, stubborn, cautious and joyful heart,” she said.

Akins elaborated on Lennon’s personality traits the following year, describing Lennon as her “extremely STUPID, little ‘sprinkler’ queen, Valentine’s Day baby who [she] she couldn’t be more obsessed” and “a JOYFUL little angel.” She added, “I think I laugh harder with her than with any other human.” She also admitted that her daughter’s “funny little personality” helped her get through morning sickness when I was pregnant with Lillie Carolina.

When Lennon turned 4 in February 2024, Rhett shared photos of her Lilo & Stitch-themed birthday party on Instagram, with a sweet message for her daughter.

“Happy Belated 4th Birthday Lennon Love! I love you more than words can say. Please stop growing so fast!” he wrote.

The couple’s fourth daughter, Lillie Carolina, was born in Nashville on November 15, 2021.

“7.5 pounds of pure joy,” Rhett announced. “Lauren, you are my hero. Watching a baby being born is a miracle. 4 under 6, let’s go!”

In her own post, Akins wrote, “Our little miss Lillie Carolina Akins 💕 was born on November 15th and our family couldn’t be more thrilled with our littlest joy.”

Six months before Lillie was born, Rhett announced that he and his wife were expecting their fourth child; they learned the happy news while skiing. “Well… we’re pregnant again!” he wrote on Instagram, adding: “We’re thrilled to have our fourth girl 🙌🙌🙌. Feel free to buy all the merch you want, knowing that all proceeds go straight to all these weddings I’m going to pay for in one day!” The couple announced the news on stage in Fort Worth, Texas, which happens to be the hometown of Akins’ mom.

As his children grow up, Rhett has only one hope. “Man, it’s hard for me to think about their future because I don’t want them to go anywhere, to be honest with you,” he told PEOPLE in April 2021. “I just want my kids to go away and find their own way knowing that they can come home whenever wishes.”

The family celebrated Lillie’s first birthday with a hot tub party in November 2022. Akins later shared a tribute to her youngest on Instagram, writing in the caption, “Lillie girl you are the biggest joy we didn’t know we needed 🥰 first happy birthday cutie pie (late a few weeks) 💕 your joyful spirit is so contagious and just like you when your first word is “YAY” hahah💗 my lucky cutie! You are so adored 🥰🥰🥰.”
