Whiting was treated for minor injuries and police are now investigating.
A source told the Mirror: “Whiting is hated in prison. He had been stabbed and was covered in blood. They were trying to kill him.”
Whiting was jailed for life in 2002 after murdering eight-year-old Sarah.
The child was abducted by the crime as she walked down a country lane to her grandparents’ home in Kingston Gorse, West Sussex.
Whiting has been subjected to a series of assaults in prison since his incarceration.
In 2020, The Sun revealed how he had been stabbed by fellow lags who were yelled at “you f***ing cu***”.
The monster was also beaten by Richard Prendergast and Kevin Hyden, who both admitted Section 18 wounding with intent.
The pair sneaked into Whiting’s cell at the high-security prison and attacked him before staff could intervene.
Double murderer Gary Vinter had previously stabbed him with a sharpened toilet brush handle.
While in 2002, killer Rickie Tregaskis slashed his cheek with a blade – leaving a 6-inch scar.
Sarah Payne’s family have spoken of their loss after she was murdered in 2000
Sarah’s murder horrified the nation after she was abducted following a game of hide-and-seek with her brothers in July 2000.
Her body lay undiscovered for 17 days in a field near Oulborough – about 15 miles from where she disappeared in Kingston Gorse.
An autopsy revealed that she had been strangled and suffocated with most of her hair pulled out in a violent murder.
When police searched Whiting’s van, they found candy, toys and rope – as well as knives and baby oil.
The clothes seized by the police contained strands of Sarah’s hair.
Whiting was convicted in December 2001 and is now serving at least 40 years for his heinous crimes.
Monster Mansion – notorious inmates at HMP Wakefield
OVER the years, a Yorkshire prison has become synonymous with Britain’s most vicious criminals.
Here are just some of the famous liars who walk the corridors of the prison…
Harold Shipman – nicknamed Dr Death, the monster is believed to have killed around 250 people. Shipman took his own life in his prison cell in 2004.
Levi Bellfield – the killer of Milly Dowler is serving a life sentence in prison for the brutal murder. He was also convicted of murdering Marsha McDonnell, 19, and Amelie Delagrange, 22, but it is feared he killed many more.
Robert Maudsley – ‘Hannibal’ the killer Maudsley spends 23 hours a day in an 18-by-14-foot underground perspex box in prison. He was imprisoned for the torture and murder of four men.
Jeremy Bamber – The Monster was convicted of the White House Farm murders in 1985 after killing five members of his family.
Mark Bridger – Bridger abducted five-year-old April Jones from outside her home in Machynlleth, Mid Wales, in October 2012. He then claimed that he accidentally ran over the boy, but was convicted of murder.
Ian Watkins – frontman of The Lost Prophets was sentenced to 35 years in prison in 2013 for a series of sexual offenses against children. Watkins was stabbed in the neck in prison last August.
It turned out that at the time of Sara’s murder, he was convicted of kidnapping and indecent assault on another girl.
As a result, the young man’s family campaigned for Sarah’s Law, which allows parents, guardians and guardians to ask the police if anyone in contact with a child has a history of offending.
A Prison Service spokesman told The Sun Online: “A prisoner at HMP Wakefield was treated for minor injuries following an incident involving another offender.
“It would be inappropriate to comment further while police are investigating.”
