My father was against it, but my mother supported me. I knew in my heart that I wouldn’t fit into the job. Even if I didn’t succeed, I could go back to the family business, I thought, even though I knew in my heart that I wouldn’t fit into the business. I answered an ad in the newspaper for new faces for the film and passed the audition easier than I expected. My first break was in a Tamil film directed by K. Balachander. The same was remade in Telugu as Idi Katha Kaadu, with me, Kamal Haasan and Chiranjeevi and the film was a hit.”
