Sarvapriya Sangwan was born on December 16 (the exact year is unknown) in Rohtak, Jatland, Haryana.

She received her primary education from a school called Jyoti Prakash Public School, Rohtak. She began to dislike math in high school, and when she entered 12th grade, she chose biology over math. After her twelfth exam, she started preparing for the medical entrance exam and passed it in one go. Thereafter, she studied BDS course at Government Dental College and Hospital, Rohtak, Haryana. Sarvapriya also holds a master’s degree in journalism from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak. Sarvpriya said she had a keen interest in legal studies from an early age, which prompted her to choose law. She considers herself liberal and non-religious. She was also good at poetry and was often found reciting her poems in various Kawisa Melan.

Profession

After becoming a dentist, her father encouraged her to pursue a career in journalism and invited her to join the NDTV Media Academy in New Delhi. From NDTV Media Academy, she obtained a diploma in journalism, after which she had the opportunity to work with renowned Hindi journalist Ravish Kumar. She has worked with the research team of Ravish Kumar’s show Primetime. From September 2011 to August 2017, she also served as an anchor on NDTV. She first came to public attention in 2014 when she covered extensively the Lok Sabha elections; assisting Ravish Kumar. In September 2017, Sarvapriya left NDTV and moved to BBC World Service as a broadcast journalist.
