One dad doesn’t vote for himself on election day, but for his daughters.
In a short interview on CNN News Central outside a polling place in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Tuesday morning, Jason Faasse was stopped and asked who he voted for. He replied: “I voted for Kamala Harris.”
When asked why, Faasse, facilities and events coordinator at Calvin University, elaborated, saying, “I have three daughters — four kids total. And women’s rights are pretty important to them.”
Faasse paused as his voice trailed off. “Sorry, I’m getting a little emotional about it. I didn’t think I would do it,” he admitted.
He continued: “But just their bodies, their choice, that type of mentality. I want them to grow up in a world that welcomes everyone, so yes, that’s why I cast my vote today.”

In April, former President Donald Trump — who is running against Vice President Harris in the presidential election — took credit for overturning the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade 2022, stating that he is “proudly responsible”.
Trump said that by overturning a landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that gave women across the nation the right to an abortion, conservatives took abortion laws “out of federal hands and into the hearts, minds and ballots of people in every state.”
From rolling over from Roe v. Wadewhen the five Supreme Court justices — three of whom were appointed by Trump — voted to strike down the law, about half of the 50 states had enacted stricter abortion restrictions. Thirteen states have a complete ban on abortion.

Among states with abortion bans or restrictions, 10 have no exceptions for pregnancies resulting from sexual assault. After the ruling, there were numerous reports of women who died or nearly died from miscarriages or complications from dangerous pregnancies, because doctors were unable to intervene due to these bans.

“We’re in a situation right now where there’s really heightened sensitivity about what is a life-threatening emergency and when is a life-threatening emergency,” said Alina Salganicoff, director of women’s health policy at the Kaiser Family Foundation. NPR back in August. She added that the word abortion is now “insurance kryptonite.”
According to a recent KFF poll, access to abortion emerged as the most important issue in the November election for women under 30.

He asked CBS Evening News in October on restoring access to abortion, Harris said: “We’ve seen the incredible damage, pain and suffering that’s happening because of what Donald Trump has done in intending, accomplishing and undoing Roe v. Wade.”
She added: “Yes, my first priority is to restore those protections and stop this pain and stop this injustice that is happening in our country.”
