Saumy Kumar Pandey was born on Thursday, November 4, 2004 in Bharatpur, Siddi District, Madhya Pradesh (age 19, 2023). His zodiac sign is Scorpio. He studied at Kendriya Vidyalaya Number-1 School in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. When he was five years old, while visiting his parents in Haridwar, a priest predicted that Somy would grow up to be an engineer or a doctor. However, Somi was not happy with the prediction and expressed his desire to become a cricketer. When Somi was six, his father met cricket coach Ariel Anthony. Together, they decided to enroll Somi at Winder Cricket Academy, about 30 kilometers from his hometown Bharatpur in Madhya Pradesh.

At the age of 8, Saumy Pandey was selected for the Rewa division DCA Sidhi under-14 cricket team. At the age of 9, he started playing for the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association Under-14 team. At the age of 16, Saumy Pandey played for the Madhya Pradesh Under-19 cricket team and was captain for a while. In 2023, Saumy Pandey participated in the U19 high-level training camp organized by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.

- Somi Pandey’s father once mentioned in a media talk that Somi was born prematurely. As a child, he often suffered from colds, coughs and headaches due to weather changes. To improve his health, doctors recommended that he engage in some physical activities such as cycling or swimming. His father said,
Since my wife and I didn’t get home from get off work until the evening, we had to find a suitable exercise. We thought cricket would be a good choice as he is inclined towards this sport. As a child, he always slept with his bat and ball next to him. “
- Despite his poor health, Somi was determined to play cricket. He consults with doctors regularly to ensure he can safely pursue his dreams. Despite his failing health, he did not give up on his passion.

- During the 2024 U19 World Cup in South Africa, Saumy Pandey took 16 wickets in 5 matches, including 3 4-wicket hauls and a hat-trick. His style of play has been compared to that of Ravindra Jadeja, who was famous for his performance in the U19 World Cup 16 years ago. However, he said that Ravindra Jadeja is a legend and it is unfair to compare him with Ravindra.
