Puducherry Education Minister A Namachivayam in an announcement mentioned that due to heavy rain in the region today, November 22, 2023, a holiday has been announced for all government and private schools in Puducherry. According to local media reports, after the heavy rain, a holiday was announced for schools in the Karaikal region.
The Meteorological Department has indicated the possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at several places in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions of Tamil Nadu for the next two days from November 22 to 24, 2023. The District Collectors of Nagai and Mayiladuthurai regions have also stated that school principals may decide to close schools. Reports also suggest the possibility of schools switching to online mode for classes amid rains in the state. Students and parents are therefore advised to keep in touch with their schools for regular updates.
The District Collector of Chennai announced school holidays last week on November 14 due to incessant and heavy rainfall in the region. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram and Cuddalore districts last week.
