Sean Penn is “thrilled every day” to be single.

The actor (63) is in an interview for The New York Times published on Saturday, June 22.

“I’m just single. If I’m going to be in a relationship, I’m still going to be single, or I’m not going to be in a relationship, and I’m not going to be hurt,” Penn said. “I don’t feel like romance is going to break my heart again.”

Penn was previously married to Madonna from 1985 to 1989. In 1996, he married Robin Wright, with whom he has a daughter Dylan Frances Penn (33) and a son Hopper Jack Penn (30).
