SECU Glitch today 2023
SECU, Maryland’s largest state credit union, celebrated the opening of a new branch in downtown Baltimore, replacing its previous location near the University of Maryland Baltimore. Located in the lobby of the Pandora Building at 250 W. Pratt St., the branch aims to serve customers in the central business district and provide accessibility to members across the city.
With more people returning to the office and state employees moving from State Center to downtown, the new branch offers more visibility, according to David Sweiderk, SECU (State Employees’ Credit Union of Maryland) president and CEO. In addition, the downtown location will support the credit union in expanding its small business loan program.
Sweiderk stated, “Having a central branch in the business district is critical to serving our current members and attracting potential members. We see great potential and believe the momentum is growing.”
To accommodate the new branch, SECU closed its previous location on W. Baltimore Street in May. The Pandora Building, previously the North American headquarters of Danish jeweler Pandora, has announced the move of its US headquarters to New York’s Times Square.
The newly opened SECU branch offers ATMs, two interactive ATMs and a self-service station that allows customers to interact with the cashier remotely. Members can meet with bank representatives on a walk-in basis or make appointments.
City Council President Nick Mosby expressed appreciation for SECU’s expansion into downtown Baltimore, saying it reflects the city’s growth and shows the confidence businesses and institutions have in its future.
Founded in Baltimore in 1951, SECU is a member-owned, non-profit organization headquartered in Linthicum. It serves more than 250,000 members through its 25 branches throughout Maryland. Eligibility for membership extends beyond government employment and includes a variety of avenues such as family members, workplaces, colleges, or donations to the SECU MD Foundation.
