See the Adorable Dogs in Costumes Who Attended the New York City Halloween Dog Parade

Dogs celebrate Halloween early.

Saturday, October 19 marked the 34th annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade in New York City. The annual event draws dozens of costumed dogs to New York’s East Village neighborhood. Dogs are paraded through the streets of the area, with some winning prizes for their creative outfits. As in previous years, 2024 was filled with many adorable dog competitors and hundreds of eager onlookers.

The event began at the Tompkins Square Dog Run, located in Tompkins Square Park, New York, but construction in the area has pushed the event to Avenue A for the time being. For 2024, the parade went down Avenue A from 13th to 7th Streets.

Groomed dogs began lining up for the parade at midday on October 19 before heading down the route at around 1pm local time. Among the astonishingly worthy visitors were dogs dressed as a slice of pizza, Austin Powers and more.

Joseph Borduin — a commercial photographer and Tompkins Square Park Dog Run volunteer who has organized the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade since 2020 — plans to make 2024 his last year as a parade organizer.

Bourdin told Gothamist that the volunteer role requires managing an increasing number of logistical problems that are too numerous and complex for one person to handle.

“I need another, bigger entity to take over this beast because it’s just too much for a small dog park,” Bourdin told the outlet.
