Gomez confirmed on Instagram Stories on Friday that she will play the legendary singer
Good for Selena Gomez!
The singer and actress, 31, confirmed on Instagram Stories on Friday that she will play music legend Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic.
“I have no words to describe my heart for this project…years of hope for this dream to become my reality,” she captioned a screenshot of a Deadline story announcing the news, which Showbiz 411 first reported over the summer. The second slide contains a black and white picture of Ronstadt who is Just the murders in the building star wrote: “He loves his heart and soul for life and music.” Ronstadt, 77, reposted the story on her account, adding pink hearts.
Music label Great Eastern Music, founded by John Boylan – Ronstadt’s manager – also announced the news of Gomez’s new role earlier this month.

The film is to be produced by Boylan and James Keach, who produced the Johnny Cash biopic To walk the line and a 2019 Ronstadt documentary The sound of my voice. The film’s title and additional cast have not yet been revealed. David O. Russell will direct.
“The long-rumored Linda Ronstadt biopic is now in the works. Selena Gomez has been cast to play Linda,β according to a post on the websiteβs βProjectsβ page. “The two recently spent several hours at Linda’s home talking about the project and getting to know each other.”
Prior to the announcement, Gomez shared an Instagram Story earlier this month that featured the cover of the singer’s 2013 memoir “Desperado.” Simple dreamswho seemed to be reading it.

The next day, Ronstadt shared a press Instagram Stories related to the casting with the caption as well as a post on her verified Facebook page that read, “It all started with a simple dream ππ.”
Gomez and the “You’re No Good” singer are both of Mexican descent, and the “Single Soon” musician has already noted their similarity in appearance.
“I’ve always been told I look like her,” Gomez said during a 2015 appearance on the show. On Air with Ryan Seacrestper Board. “And that’s why I started listening to her music.”
Ronstadt, who won 11 Grammys during her career, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy in 2016. She became the subject of a documentary Linda Ronstadt: The sound of my voice 2019 hosted by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman and chronicled her nearly 50-year career.

Ronstadt’s music career was cut short when she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2013. Four years earlier, she had lost her voice.
“It’s like I don’t have a leg or an arm, but there’s nothing I can do,” the rock singer told PEOPLE in 2019.
Ronstadt struggled to record two albums as her voice deteriorated. She was even told it was “nerves”, before the neurologist diagnosed her.
“I felt like something was wrong, but I couldn’t tell what it was,” she said, describing the initial symptoms. βAt first I thought it was my headphone mix, then I thought it was the microphone, then I thought it was just some frequencies missing in my voice. It got slowly, steadily worse.β
Along with the loss of the musical instrument, her mobility decreased.

“There’s nothing I can do and I’ve just learned how to live with it,” she said.
However, Ronstadt has since discovered that she has a condition similar to Parkinson’s disease called progressive supranuclear palsy, according to TODAY.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the rare condition is caused by the deterioration of brain cells that control thought, movement and coordination, which is similar to the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and dementia.
